Need more than Clarke though. With Joaos injury record, need to find another striker with experience in there. If Puscas is off that is

Not that I wouldn’t be minded to bring on Clarke in games above Puscas or whoever but can’t expect a season of Joao first choice with Clarke backing up

We've got Meite and Azeez too. Plus Melvin-Lambert.

Some genuine experience and quality would be very handy, but we do have a range of options.

We even had Hoilett upfront last season. No problem with signing another forward if Puscas is going but let’s bring someone in that’s better than the other options we are mentioning here.

To be fair, he probably is better than both Azeez and Melvin-Lambert and won't do any worse really than Puscas and will probably be 50-75% cheaper as well.

A Sheff Wednesday fan said we were daft to pay £5m for Joao as well, he's been caught with egg on his face.

I'd always try and reserve judgement with players until they have joined so we can see how they perform in our system.

Fair enough. I can only go on his record for now which is underwhelming. I would rather we gave Clarke a chance as back up.

The feedback on Joao was that had great spells but kept getting injured and would blow hot and cold in and out of the team.

Most Wednesday fans recognised there was a quality player in there.

Yeah that much is true but for £5m they thought it was daft at the time considering he was pretty much their back up striker most of the time and they had others in front of him.

The Barnsley view is this guy will give 100%. However he isn’t very good and not what they want if they are to challenge in League One.

They seem to be speaking as if he would be a starter - he's very unlikely to be that if he signs for us.

Yeah 3rd or 4th choice back up squad filler

It’s fine with me tbh. Azeez and co prob all end up better players but him, Clarke and NML played about 500 first team mins between them

Azeez played more than 500 on his own last season.

Clarke 201

Melvin-Lambert seems to have started about 3 times as many games as Azeez did, at St Patricks or wherever he went. So probably upwards of 1000.

Pushing 2000 for the the trio last season.

 mwah.

I'm sure NML got a few minutes in a previous season, but can't find the details.

3 apps in total so far, two in the league cup v Colchester and Luton in 2020 and 1 other v Luton in the FA Cup in 2021.

Joao, Long, Clarke, Meite & Azeez if required....absolutely no need for this signing even if we sell Puscas

You can only assume we were never really in for him.

Although as he is 24, if Barnsley had offered him a deal, which I think they had, we aren't allowed to pay the compensation.

Yeah agreed. He may have been a fall back option but with Long signed I can’t see why we would need this guy too.

I'd be very surprised if Joao is here at the end of this window.

I think Joao staying or going could prove the difference between staying up and getting relegated.
Fortunately (so far) there has been little or no media talk of him going-long may that continue.

At this stage, with Puscas going it will take one hell of a bid to get rid probably incl. a player coming the other way too. Not saying it won't happen but needs a lot to fall into place first.
