SPECULATION - Nicky Maynard

by The 17 Bus » 16 May 2008 07:25

Should be the first new signing of the summer, being from Crewe should have the right attitude for us. Recovered well from an early set back last season, feel sure we have good relationship with Crewe having loaned them a player or two in recent past.

I would also get in for Freddy Eastwood from Wolves, not the greatest season just gone, but available, should not have bad attitude, having spent time at unfashionable Southend.

This would replace Lita (Bristol C) and Doyle (Sunderland), and probably at no cost to the club either.

I was going to start a thread about this aswell! Great touch, pace, vision, and the shockingly rare ability to put the ball in the back of the net! Always looked a better player than Varney, who went to Charlton.

Problem with Eastwood is that there are not many roads for his pony trap...

Was Maynard a youth player through Crewe, or did he by chance come from Spurs?

Maynard, yes, worth a punt.

Eastwood hasn't cut it in the Championship, and when we need to look for promotion, I don't think he would be a step forward at all, especially to replace either Lita or Doyle who we know have 15+ championship goals in them.

I was thinking of Dawkins, no worries. Would be quite a catch to get Maynard.

Crewe are demanding £2m for striker Nicky Maynard after rejecting bids from Bristol City and Ipswich. (Daily Mirror)

In my opinion a Coppell player, relatively cheap, good potential, no prob with wages, have heard good things about him. Thoughts?

maynard would be a hug coup considering premership teams are chasing him. The only way he will come though is if we sell a striker first.

Sounds good and i think from what has been written here, that SC could make a great player out of him. But who to sell? Lita perhaps? Or is Doyle about to leave?

Eastwood has a HUGE chip on his shoulder and would rock the boat. He was like that at Southend and Wolves apparently. Not really what we want IMO.

Sell Lita. Fourth choice, attitude problems, etc. Maynard is a similar type of player to Lita- only harder working. I'd take him- £2m plus Church on loan.

They are already in for Kevin Lisbie and Angelos Charisteas, we would beat Ipswich to his signature surely?

SCIAG Sell Lita. Fourth choice, attitude problems, etc.

What are you talking about?

We are likely to lose at least one striker this summer, and that could well be Doyle as he carried the heavier price tag.

Lita is a superb striker at this level and anyone thinking he is below Shane Long in the pecking order is clearly in need of some help.
