Coppell resigns as Bristol City manager

by bobby1413 » 12 Aug 2010 12:07

Sky sports news now.

Edit: has also retired from football management. Says he can't offer the club what they need so has left. New manager appointed as Keith Millen.

Also says he doesn't have the passion to lead the club.

Talks about David James who agreed to join with a big part of that reason being Coppell being there.

Coppell does it again!

Breaking news on R5 Live. Steve Coppell resigns as Bristol City manager after only weeks in charge. Love to know the background to that one.

I thought he liked a challenge?

If he hasn't got the heart for it, surely he should stick to punditry from now on?

Shocking, though to be honest if he's been having a good time away from management why go through it all again? he's already proved he can do a job with similar sized clubs and has been managing football teams for over 20 years.

Think he joined Bristol on May 11th. So 3 months and 1 day.

Snowball Rumoured to be going to villa?

That was my first thought - that surely has to be the reason for this (don't think he's coming back here just yet  )

Rumoured by whom?

My guess is he longer has the heart for it - as I said elsewhere, he should stick to punditry if he can't face a managerial challenge like that any more.

Wow. Genuinely shocked by this. Yes, the Man City job gave him a reputation, but he was so solid, calm, composed as a Reading boss, I thought he'd moved on from that and expected him to do as good a job at City. Sounds like his head just isn't in it.

Best of luck to him, as a Reading legend, in whatever he does in the future, football management is worse off without him.

Agreed.

Tbh, I loved him so much as our manager that I was dreading having to see him back at the Mad Stad with a new team. So this has worked out well for me
Maybe he realised too late that he was better off being a pundit, without any of the stress etc, and it probably pays him well enough not to have to worry too much about money.

Heard a very strong rumour from a good source that he was rather p*ssed off a couple of weeks ago when the Chairman signed James without his knowledge. Therefore, I don't blame Coppell one bit - Nobody wants a meddling Chairman.
