According to Fink Tank in the Times...................

by Arnie_Pie » 23 Oct 2010 10:05

Statistically, we are currently the best team in the Championship. :shock:

Not only that, but we are in fact better than the bottom NINE Premiership sides.

I am not going to type it all out but -

Percentage chances of winning The Championship

QPR = 31.1%
Cardiff = 29.9%
Reading 9.6%

Page 12 in the paper. No link unfortunately as their website is now PPV. :x

I would love to know how they worked this out.

If we have a 9% chance of winning the championship and QPR have 31%, how are we better?

I have no idea. I think they are stating we are currently the best, even though, of course, both QPR and Cardiff have more points.

Fink Tank is usually pretty good for stats but this has baffled me as they do not fully explain why.

I would scan it and put it up but I might get in trouble for copyright. :evil:

Saw this.

They also say "they don't respond to news from clubs."

They had QPR down as 9th best at the start of the season. Maybe they haven't allowed for Taarabat?

QPR are now (they say) 50.5% likely to win it, based on whatever their system is TIMES their current points (they say)

Saw an interesting stat this morning, apparently we have only conceded more than one goal once in the last 11 games.

If we could score we'd be laughing right now.

Our ranking as 'best' club, and QPR 9th, is based on our squad ranked against the others at the start of the season, and is what contributes to us being '3rd favourites' to win the division, despite us being nowhere near 3rd place in the table. Presumably as the season progresses, their model will assign lower weighting to the statistical ability of the squad, and more to form/league results.
