Rev Algenon Stickleback H
St Pauli Large group of fans at the front of Y26 would not sit down, and when surrounded by stewards they were given vocal support by the rest of Y26 8)

Individuals hauled out, but overall good atmosphere and the stewards had to keep their distance.

The strange thing last night was there seemed to be no real effort at all to make the fans sit down. Many in the area stood for the whole match.

Yet a mate of mine got warned before the match about complaints about him swearing. They even had close-up photos of him, and a log on complaints.

He does swear, but it's only heat of the moment stuff, at the same time as several thousand other people swear, so it's a little odd. And yes, I appreciate some parents with children might not like it, but it's football, not a creche, and if people want to avoid swearing they should go to a family stand.

That's one of the big problems with all seater stadiums. Nobody at Elm Park would complain to the club because people regularly swore in the right side of the south bank. They'd just move to another part of the terrace, where their type of fan would watch from.

If you can have family areas where swearing etc isn't tolerated, then surely there's room for having a more "adult" section of the ground too, and families could be advised to buy tickets away from that area.

The response of some of the stewards to swearing in the heat of the moment really does f*cking p*iss me off!!

My son was warned once, apparently in amongst many hundreds telling the ref what they thought of him, these stewards with dolphin like accuracy were able to isolate his voice! At the time he was really upset as he's not the type to get into trouble. When I suggested to the steward that the Reading management and players were also likely to be using some very choice words at the time, he didn't really know how to respond! Afterall, can anyone imagine Wally Downes saying: 'That's a very poor decision referee my good fellow!'

As regards those fellow supporters who complain about swearing, I won't whether they turn their telly off/over whenever a swear word pops up!

As for standing up, was I hearing things or were the QPR fans taking the p*ss out of the whole silly situation by singing 'Sit down, we're allowed to stand up' to the Reading fans?

I thought they were singing " sit down in your family stand" might be wrong though

As for the stewards they dont make a real effort if its a game that everyone is up for or if they fear for their safety they just give up. Saw loads of people getting kicked out last night in the reading end though. Believe someone got sent our for giving a oxf*rd sign to QPR fans

"What they want to prevent is behaviour that antagonises opposing fans"
Don't make me laugh, So that fat pcunt QPR fan did nothing like this then.
He was giving it the large 1 with all the cut throat hand signals and fighting gestures on the stairs closest to Y26, yet our limp wristed stewards do nothing as usual. I thought yesterday was gonna be like the Palace game with the away mongtards clambering over the meshing.
"do do, do do, oxf*rd useless"

I can tell you now that not all stewards have training up to NVQ 2 standard as Star claim in the article above.

Funding was cut, and loads of info was lost(?) and it's only now that it is up & running again.

I think STAR have made an error in their report when they refer to the club only making 11 banning orders.

There is no way (thank god!) that RFC or any other club have the legal powers to issue banning orders that cover the town centre, involve surrender of passports etc. Only the police/courts can do that.

RFC have banned people from attending non-RFC property though

There are two types of bans - section 14 bans, which are legal bans and which apply to all designated grounds (tiers 1 to 5) and international matches - they include surrendering passports when England play abroad and so on. There are two types of such this sort of ban - section 14a (criminal) and section 14b (civil) but the effect is more or less the same. These are imposed by a court and are for a fixed duration - usually 3 years.

As I understand it, there are currently 16 Reading supporters with section 14 bans - 11 for home matches and 5 for away matches.

Also, as a private premises, the club has the legal right to ban anyone they want to for whatever reason, as long as it's not on discriminatory grounds (race, age, sex, colour, sexuality etc) - and they tend to impose such bans generally for small numbers of games, as "warnings". This is typically done for breaches of ground regulations but definitely not for criminal matters. Anything criminal gets a section 14 ban, not a club ban.

What about the club telling supporters they can't attend other football stadia without getting a section 14 ban in place?
