Howard loaned to Millwall

by Ian Royal » 26 Sep 2011 14:41

On the OS Facebook page.

Exactly what we need, our only passing midfielder loaned out when he should be starting games. Now we have a choice of Gunnarsson - too old, Karacan - not creative, Leigertwood - not creative and hugely out of form and Tabb - not creative.

Good luck Bri, you've been severely under used here.

Not good enough at this level. Fail at Sheff Utd and now here. Wont do anything special at Millwall. Hope they take him off our hands in January.

Rubbish!

Brian played well for Sheffield Utd and was instrumental in them getting to the playoff final.

Was also apart of the invigorated team of the 09/10 season. Hopefully he can get some games under his belt and come back and be part of the team. I think McD is losing the plot

Funny, because if you speak to a lot of their fans it's the same 70/30 split you get on here about him.

Barnsley though loved him.

If he comes back match-fit and match-sharp and full of confidence it can only be a good thing.

I thought Matejovsky was a poor man's Howard tbh.

Tends towards childishness on the pitch and thinks he's better than he is.

Doesn't work hard enough on his weaknesses.

So there!

Tend to agree. I can only see this as a case of more cloth cutting - another one off the wage bill.

I will be very surprised if he comes back - will almost certainly be sold - or given to Millwall for free in Jan - if he does ok.

Very short sighted decision in my view and I wonder whether Brain agreed to this - or had it imposed on him.

The only possible justification would be if we intend to bring in a better player on loan to replace him, otherwise we look very lightweight in midfield.

one of the few footballers left in the squad..although tbf never has achieved peforemd consistently at RFC..I think due to tatics of the team more than his ability

But it was made public in the transfer window that Howard wanted to leave, and Brian agreed that he could go if a team came in for him....
I'm guessing that Howard wants to play, and McD couldn't/wouldn't guarantee him game time so the player himself has engineered a move.....

I have to say, I'm disappointed with this - it leaves us very little in terms of options in midfield, certainly we don't really have a "plan B" that's obvious, unless McD has decided that Jake Taylor is likely to be his "plan B" (and therefore there will be little or no opportunity for Howard - "plan C?").
In reality I suspect that the situation is that McD is expecting to play the same as we have been 4-4-2 with two holding midfield players from Leigertwood, Tabb, Karacan and Gunnarsson, whilst using McAnuff, Kebe, HRK and Obita to provide the threat from out wide. If Cummings and MIlls can hold their places in the team, and can support the wide men, then this isn't necessarily a bad plan, but I'd still prefer the option of doing something a little different from the bench (I've got a horrible feeling that we're going to see HRK coming on and McAnuff moving into the middle on more than one occasion this season)...
