Charlton weren't in the Premiership while he was at their academy, I think. They had a brief stint late 80s then didn't come back for a good ten years?

M-U-R-T-Y Baines was at Liverpool's academy but agreed with all the others...

Pretty sure he was in the Wigan Academy after leaving Livepool though.

Not when he was coming through (although as another Lilleshall player it's probably arguable how much Charlton was his club).

At the moment, all Academies are meant to provide the same standard of youth development coaching - and a higher grade than Centres of Excellence provide. There is a maximum number of coaching hours per week that no academy can go over, regardless of what level the team plays at. So the only differentiator is how much the coaches are paid and the level of opportunities the kids will get to play - plus any "inducements" the parents get.

That will change under EPPP, where Cat 1academies ("Super-academies") are meant to provide better coaching than Cat 2 (which will be equivalent to today's academies.) Cat 3 will be equivalent to Centres of Excellence, and Cat 4 will be like apprenticeships, where they pick-up kids at age 16 rejected by other academies and train them for two years but don't find their own kids to train.

In reality though that's all a load of fluffy rubbish though Dirk.

Facilities, coaching, talent of their peers, clubs policy and ability to nuture, level of opportunity, almost everything varies from academy to academy.

If it didn't then the kids really wouldn't have any choice to consider.

TheMaraudingDog
Terminal Boardom Same old Chelsea - always tapping up kids from other clubs. Obviously the parents were not in need of a new kitchen, conservatory or 4 wheel drive.

But instead of being coached decent football on decent pitches the kid Will be playing hoofball on bobby pitches where only the big kids Will win.

Agreed. PLus the fact that any youngster who comes out of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal academy that doesn't quite make the first team will always be able to carve out a career at a decent level of league football as they're usually snapped up. Kids that come out academies of championship and below often fall by the wayside, playing non league then you never hear of them again. Again it's down to better coaching and being surrounded with better technical players at the top teams. If this kid doesn't do anything at Swindon or wherever he's from, then there won't be many clubs queueing up for him.

Farcical decision to sack Ancellotti- no sympathy whatsoever with their predicament. Lovely finsh from Johnson for the goal. Kept such a cool head.
