cmonurz A ball dropped on to the ground is not the same as kicking a ball which is on the ground, fcuking hell TMD.

When you kick a drop kick / half volley at the point you strike the ball its on the ground and within these rules you div

No you don't, you strike it a fraction of a second after it leaves the ground again.

Terminal Boardom See Law 16 for goal kicks

http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/RulesandRegulations/LawsoftheGame

Procedure
The ball is kicked from any point within the goal area by a player of the
    defending team
Opponents remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play
The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player
The ball is in play when it is kicked directly out of the penalty area
On the face of it then, Cech infringed the third of these, by playing the ball twice.

Doesn't point 4 negate point 3 though in this case?

sandman Wonder what Modric thinks about Chelolsea's form this season given his stated ambition to join them in the summer and Spurs current position.

He's probably still a bit miffed at losing out on a £50k a week pay rise or whatever it was rumoured to be.

Fair play to him for getting on with it playing for Spurs though.

I think point 3 is in reference to after the ball has left the area. Until then the 'kicker' can take multiple touches it seems.

Where was Cech when he first kicked the ball? Was he actually on the pitch? I can't remember. If he was off the pitch he did nothing wrong. Plus, common sense would see that if he was on the pitch when he first kicked the ball, it was to position the ball rather than to restart the game. Certainly not as contentious as the Blackburn Rovers corner routine.

Cech was on the pitch. The ball had been placed in the goal area about three yards from the touchline. Cech kicked it forward and then booted it to Mikel while it was rolling forward, before it exited the goal area.

It can't be; under "Infringements and Sanctions" it says
"If the ball is not kicked directly out of the penalty area from a goal kick:
• the kick is retaken"

Anyway, it's only me that seems to think the ref made an error here, so I'm happy to let it drop.

The referee 'technically' made an error, but thankfully he saw common sense. In much the same way as a player might deliver the ball to a team-mate for a throw-in in an over-arm manner, or tap the ball to someone else to take a free-kick, Cech just happened to use his foot to position the ball for the goal kick, it was still within the six yard box when he 'took the kick'.

I agree, when Bellendamy tried to break Cole's legs in the first half. Str8 red and he didn't even get a booking.

disgrace that Chelsea represent England in this competition. Should be QPR or Liverpool.

Reading could beat Leverkusen ffs.
