It may seem disrespectful to you, but in their own way they were paying tribute to a Welsh legend. I thought it was touching.

Royal Lady
Chaney i really wish the crowd had stuck to the minutes silence, clapping just doesn`t seem right somehow.

Yes, I thought this. His death is a complete tragedy and he was so young. The PA guy specifically asked for a minute's silence and I felt it was a bit disrespectful for some to start clapping.

Agreed

They could have paid their respects by adhering to the request for a minute's silence and then, after that, clapped and chanted his name. Normally, if a minute's hand clapping is preferred, this is announced over the PA system.

They probably talked to his family before the game went ahead. They may have asked for it, who knows. I just think they should have done as asked, there's lots of other time to clap and sing songs about him.

Horrible news, ive got a lot of respect for Gary speed. Player that was always around while growing up, solid workhorse with a bit of quality in there too. For me he typified everything RIGHT with modern day football and also in generations gone by. Not sure what drove him to this but frankly thats his business and it won't change my opinion of him and what he has done for the game.

RIP.

I do see your points, and to be honest I think I admired the spontaneity of it as a nice tribute. You ask the Swansea fans, they'll tell you that they definitely weren't being disrespectful.

Anyway... let's not derail the thread.

Current Wales striker Simon Church said: "I can't believe it what a great man and a true Welsh footballing legend a great inspiration to all. RIP Gary Speed."

just been listening to Robbie Savage on 5 live, he said he spoke to him before football focus yesterday and everything was absolutely fine, he even asked to be back on football focus before xmas as he enjoyed doing it so much yesterday lunchtime.

its just utterly baffling, even if his Mrs told him last night she was leaving him to do this just doesnt add up.

It's not the thread for a debate about it, but I suppose people can be severely depressed and cover it up well & carry on as normal

Completely shocked by this, I had to keep reading the screen for a while to believe I'd seen it.

RIP in peace

A true footballing legend, in a world of ego's and tossers where the word legend is bandied about too easily.
A top quality player, who may have one day been a top manager.

RIP Gary
