PerthPom2013 As much as I was pretty disappointed we lost so convincingly I'm not going to get worried about it. People seem to forget that this is the first time we have pretty much played our best eleven or a team that Adkins thinks will possible start come 3pm next Saturday. It was also against a Premier League team who played their strongest team, who are renowned for playing quality passing football and who have one striker that was one of the players of the Premier League last season and another that cost £12million. We are going to be 'work in progress' for a quite a few more games and until we sort our striker situation out and also have a run games for the new players to bed in then things may not go all our way.

I hope that wasnt our best eleven! Kanu was poor, Jobi was poor, Alfie was poor ( needs close support), Kelly got caught out on a number of occasions, Pearce has got slower. Why no Macleary? Why no Mariappa? Wheres our new CF? Are Pog and Mariappa off as they weren't playing? So disappointing, we hardly produced a chance on goal apart from shots over the bar. We desperately need a creative midfielder and a striker

Drenthe was so unfit. Good in fits and starts, but spent most of the game walking around.

I didn't see the game but my general impression of it, from being in Reading at the time and the general feel in the air is as follows:

Bridge- old, slow,, no better than shorey. Get rid.
Drenthe- far too short to be taken seriously. He will struggle massively in the champ I'm afraid.
Guthrie- waste of space.
Strikers- Alf was a beast and with Pog and Blackman and HRK and Akpan who we will train up as strikers we will definitely not need anyone in this role to come in. Best save the money please for a left winger or left back!!
Adkins- Hoofball specialist.

Overall last year we were doing well against Swansea but now we were whooped. We're clearly going backwards unless we can bolster the left side.

My hair has grown tall and bright pink.

Swansea were hopefully a good example to our players of what can be done if you pass and move well. Plus a few est of how well we can keep to what we want to do against a side better at it and better at pressing than most in the champ.

Unlikely we'll play a team as good as them.

I hope so as well, but that was Robson-Kanu's first 45 minutes for a while, I wasn't at the game (I live in Australia!) but I thought I read somewhere McAnuff played ok?? Alfie up front on his own clearly doesn't work and we've known that for ages, hence we need to sort out our striker situation asap. No idea why no Mariappa, and even though Pearce does look slow I think I would prefer him and Mariappa as the defensive pairing (not a fan of Morrison). McCleary didn't play because Adkins clearly wanted Robson-Kanu to get some game time. I think Gunter fits Adkins' system a lot better than Kelly does. The only worrying thing for me is our only current goal scorer doesn't actually fit into Adkin's' style of play as in up front on his own!? The other thing is is that we have no more friendlies for our preferred starting eleven to gel properly, which is why I think the first 4-6 games are potentially going to be a bit up and down. I just don't think we can play 3 or 4 pre season friendlies using different eleven players pretty much every 45 mins leading up to the game yesterday and then expect to see a fluent impressive display against a half decent Premier League team. I think our main issue at the moment is that we haven't been able to get rid of the Pog sooner. A player that is porobably the highest earner at the club and Zingarevich isn't going to want to bring another striker in until we finally get rid of him. Having said all that I'm still pretty confident we will do what is needed by the 2nd Sept to sort out the striker situation, we are just going to have to stay patient until then unfortunately!

I don't think this will be the starting 11 although I get the feeling Adkins likes Morrison and see's big potential in him.
McCleary did not play as he played a full 90 v Bristol City and would of benefited from an extra days rest before playing today at rovers. So was a good opportunity and essential to give HRK a run out. A hooper would of been ideal up top, shame we missed out, a Ricky Lambert would of been great also.
Swansea will do well I the prem this coming season from what I saw, they were good last season but they have improved.

We must not also forget that Swansea are further forward in their pre-season. They have played 7 proper friendlies and they have a Europa Cup tie this week

I'm not disappointed about missing out on Hooper. I think he's too similar to Le Fondre. I think that Rickie Lambert would be perfect fit for us but unfortunately it is never going to happen, unless Southampton bring in a new striker and we then offer a fee that is too good to turn down and we are never going to do that!

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play
