Team for Ipswich (H)

by RedRum » 31 Jul 2013 12:08

Assuming we don't make another signing before Saturday - who do you want to start and who do you think Adkins will start?

I'd like to see something like
McCarthy
Gunter--Morrison--Mapps--Bridge
Guthrie-- Williams
Drenthe -- Akpan -- McCleary
Pog

Think McCleary, Akpan and Morrison played well over pre-season. So deserve a start.

Think Adkins will play McAnuff instead of Akpan, and Pearce instead of Morro. Not really sure about Williams given he didn't play at all last weekend.

I'd go with that although Blackman has that one game suspension.

Maybe Obita instead then on the bench to give him a chance.

As I haven't seen what Akpan can do in the advanced role he's going to be on the bench.

I want

==============McCarthy=================

Gunter====Pearce=====Mariappa=====Bridge

========Guthrie========Williams=========

McCleary==========================Drenthe

===========Pog========Le Fondre==========

Le Fondre up top on his own and the ability to buy a CAM who knows how to position himself rules out 4-2-3-1 for me.

Most likely see

===================McCarthy==================

Kelly=========Pearce========Morrison========Bridge

===========Guthrie========Karacan==============

Drenthe============McAnuff=================HRK

===================Le Fondre====================

I think Adkins will start:

..............McCarthy
Gunter, Pearce, Mariappa, Bridge
.........Guthrie, Karacan
Drenthe....McCleary......McAnuff
................Pog

Williams missing out because of his knock. HRK missing out because of a lack of pre-season games, same for Kebe. ALF could play and is the one scoring, but Pog slightly better suited to playing up on his own.

Ultimately, although I don't think we can do it against Ipswich, I'd like to see us play something like this.

..............McCarthy
Gunter, Pearce, Mariappa, Bridge
.........Guthrie, Williams
Kebe........Drenthe......McAnuff
................ALF

Then, should we get promoted, we'd have a pretty decent bones of a team with the addition of a good AM (GYLFI!) and Drenthe taking over from Jobi and HRK / McCleary maybe taking over from Kebe if necessary.

PS: LOL at everyone dropping our best performing winger from last season, who has consistently performed well over his entire time here and is captain. GTFOI.

I expect:

McCarthy

Gunter Pearce Marriappa Bridge

Guthrie Karacan

Drenthe McAnuff Mcleary

Pog

With Le Fondre and HRK coming on second half, but Kelly, Morrison, HRK, Le Fondre and Williams could all possibly start. It will be intresting to see who Adkins rates to start the season.

This. Except ALF for Pog.

Would like:

--------------McCarthy
Gunter - Pearce Mariappa - Bridge
----------Guthrie-------- Akpan
Drenthe------------------------McCleary
-----------Pog------------Le Fondre

However I fear it will be:

----------------McCarthy
Kelly - Pearce Mariappa - Bridge
----------Guthrie---------Karacan
Drenthe------------------------McAnuff
--------------Robson-Kanu
---------------Le Fondre

For me it has to be Gunter ahead of Kelly, against Swansea Drenthe didn't show much apetite for helping his full back out so Gunter's extra pace could be useful. Akpan in for Karacan is more hope than expectation, I thought he looked lively against Swansea when he came on and was involved in pretty much all of our best chances. I would settle for HRK to play alongside ALF, but I'm dreading someone playing 'off' ALF, rendering our attack about as sharp as bread knife.

I'm not really keeping tabs on the injury situation. It's just Kebe, HRK and Williams with question marks but none of them firmly out? Oh, and Roberts of course.

Based on that, I'd like:
McCarthy; Kelly, Pearce, Mariappa, Bridge; Karacan, Guthrie; Drenthe, McAnuff, McCleary; Pogrebnyak
Subs: Federici, Morrison, Gunter, Williams/Akpan, ALF, and two of Kebe, HRK, Obita and Taylor (in order of preference)

Just about says it all, he was awful for most of last season as he doesn't have the ability to be effective in the Prem. Could well be a different story now though, still not convinced there is a huge difference between all the wingers at present. GMac has the potential and HRK could do with a little more consistency but Jobi does have the extra experience and it's understandable that Adkins will probably start him.

'greed with the second formation.

Whoever Adkins picks he's going to make at least a couple of players VERY unhappy, and we need to bear that in mind on Saturday when the we see the team he's picked. On another note, I'd like to see Samuel and Obita involved at least once this season!

ALF up front on his own = FLYING AIDS.

Very little about Le Fondre's all round game makes him suitable for playing up top on his tod. Tbh, he rarely looks suitable for anything other than a 20 minute cameo at the end of games.

Federici

Kelly
Bridge
Mariappa
Pearce

McCleary
McAnuff (c)
Karacan
Guthrie
Robson-Kanu

Pogrebnyak

Subs: McCarthy, Gunter, Morrison, Obita, Akpan, Drenthe, Le Fondre

What he'll go for is the same as last week apart from maybe McCleary in place of Kanu with Drenthe moving inside and Gunter for Kelly.

Not necessarily. We've got at least 48 games to play this season, possibly more. There's plenty of football for a squad of 25-28 players.
