TBM It's a blessing cos now NA will buy a few more players

A centre half and striker must be priority

Isn't it a bit worrying that he didn't already know this?

Don't count on that. Adkins said it has no bearing.

Woodcote Royal
tmesis We had a weak squad by premier league standards, with a lack of investment, but this result isn't about a lack of investment.

Even with the changes we've made, losing to Peterborough alone would be a poor result.

Losing by this margin though, is unacceptable on every level possible.

Exactly.

We may not have the first 11 of the 106 but this is the strongest squad the club has ever had at this level....................this should be a wake-up call for Adkins and his highly tedious apologists.

I'd say without any doubt the squad that went up in 2006 was still miles stronger, and the one in the season after we came down was stronger too.

The stunning part is that this wasn't, perhaps with the exception of Obita, a team you'd look at and say it was a make-shift 2nd choice line-up. A fair few of them out there no doubt think/thought they ought to be 1st choice.

If the game had been at the Madejski, with that line-up, I'd have expected a win. You have to wonder quite what happened to produce a result like that, as this is no Burns/Bullivant type squad that just blatantly isn't good enough.

Can't think of anything else that would make them think that we're desperate.

Every player who played tonight, except a couple, should think that they'll be ENORMOUSLY LUCKY to ever play for The Royals again after tonight.

And I also hope that those people claiming that Mariappa was "The Answer" to our team's bad performances recently will look at his performance tonight with Gorkss in particular and think twice :x

Judging by that:

1st goal - Feds beaten at the near post
2nd - Stunner
3rd - Should have got a tackle in somewhere along that run
4th - Terrible tackle from Gorkss
5th - Terrible tug from Cummings
6th - Good goal

Those penalties are shocking to give away, absolutely shocking.

If you look at the mistakes made for the four preventable goals, they all came from players who haven't been in the team recently. It takes a game or two to get up to speed. Having said that, Posh's reserves didn't seem too off the pace....

Yep granted we got well and truly spanked by a League One team last night and I'm as annoyed about the result as the next person but a few things we need to remember:-

Peterborough are going to probably walk League One this season.
They arguably have a better attacking team now than they did towards the end of last season.
They only missed out on staying up last season by one point and they were unfortunate to have to play Palace away on the last day of the season when Palace had to win to guarantee their play off place.
A few more wins under their belt and they would have pretty much finished mid table.
We know Darren Ferguson has always got them playing impressive attacking football but their downfall has always been defensively.
We were fortunate to beat them 3-2 at home at this stage of the cup last season and they also beat us quite convincingly in our game away in the Championship a few seasons back before we got promoted to the Premier League! So we have always found them difficult to play against.
They have only lost 1 game at home in the league since the beginning of the year
They had scored 17 goals in their last 5 games before last night.

I certainly didn't expect them to beat us 6-0 but basically this was always going to be a difficult game even if we played our first team so making 9 changes was never going to go smoothly. Even though I'm fully behind Adkins and what we are trying to achieve but I don't agree with his comment that we had a desire to go through last night. If we did we wouldn't have made 9 changes and we would have taken Peterborough a bit more seriously considering their start to the season. Having said that I think we had to give certain fringe players game time to let them prove themselves and they have only got themselves to blame for not taking the chance.

Should have sent the team's luxury coach away and told the players that they would have to find their own way home.

Interesting I haven't read anyone place any blame at Alfs door.

Our team is no where near as strong as people believe.

I honestly think our u21's would have had a better crack at them last night

Fair play to Adkins - In one fell swoop he's just shown Anton and Squeaky exactly why and where we need to invest, and shown Jimmy Kebe for what he really is.

It'll hopefully be a productive few days.

I blame ALF.

He also told Jimmy he doesn't want him at his club anymore.

This.

But:

You can't play an entirely new team (not even playing together as a reserve side) and expect to put in any kind of 'joined up' performance. Had Kelly and Kebe been available we'd have seen 11 changes to the starting lineup.

Adkins clearly wasn't taking the competition too seriously but I'm sure he wasn't expecting to get dicked all over the park.

Not reading all 28 pages of this guff - but has anyone suggested that it might be a nice to gesture for the club to refund the ticket prices or the coach travel or something - because whether the club took this game seriously or not, there were plenty of people who paid good money to go and watch it and, as ever, it is completely disrespectful of the manager, players and club to put in a performance like that after people have put themselves out to watch it.

I know a club can't say "we're not bothered about this mickey mouse cup, we're concentrating on the league" or other similar rubbish, but perhaps if the club offered free coach travel to those that wanted to go to these sort of games, it would be a hint not to expect too much out of it. I hope CMZ reads these threads. Spin your way out of this m8.
