During the period when we shipped 3 goals per game (now over, I hope...) I started wondering what is
a. the highest number of goals conceded by Reading in a season
b. the highest number of goals scored by Reading in a season

I suspect that we may have to go back to the Jack Mansell era but would really appreciate any information.

And 2 of those 3 defeats were to Brentford, who we usually rolled over at EP. Their record at EP was pretty dire,
P35 W5 D10 L20 F34 A66. If they had performed to their usual standard we'd have lost only 1 game in those 4 seasons.
The only other defeat at EP in those 4 years was to Crystal Palace.

If you are interested in more info on "Fortress Elm Park", try to get hold of a copy of Elm Park Echoes, p57-60. I only have an old battered copy left. Not sure if Graham would appreciate pages scanned into the Forum section here, but maybe he could be persuaded to find somewhere on the site for it?

Amazed to see that the biggest Mad Stad attendance is against Everton, for a game in middle of November.

Trying to spot the reason. Smaller restricted area as their fans are generally considered ok? Quite a long way for away fans though. Would they have filled every away seat?

Just seems strange that it isn't ManUre or Arsenal with their away followings.

13,775 lowest league attendance in ten years

Yeah, I think the lowest before 13775 was the 13630 hardy souls who braved the 4-0 demolition of Crewe Alexandra in the LCh on 23/10/2004. They had the bonus of seeing us maintain 2nd place in the LCh. Sadly we tailed off to finish 7th that year.

My bold prediction, now that our injury list is starting to clear up, is that 13775 will be our lowest League attend this season! Is that tempting fate or what!?!

Actually, just discovered that Tuesday's game was the 285th consecutive home League game that had an attendance over 10,000! The last sub-10,000 home League attendance was 9007 v Tranmere on 20/11/2001 !!

Can anyone hazard a guess at what the previous record for consecutive home League attendances over 10,000 was?! Dare I give you a clue?! Well, it was a figure much lower than 100 consecutive games, and it surprised me!

These really ARE RFC's golden years people!

I was also surprised as to the large difference in terms of home and away form, and that with a home record as strong as that we "only" finished second that year.

I remember that game well, was the biggest win i'd seen up to that point (think its still the 2nd biggest now). Someone in the Pog thread talked about Hahnemann throw, winger cross (thought it was Hughes myself but it may not have been), Owusu header. Well it was from that game, one of the best team goals I've seen us score live. Hard to believe we were so high in the table then, we were good but we weren't that good in that game and actually the scoreline flattered us a bit. We still should have made the playoffs that season though, especially having beaten West Ham in the second half of the season.

My other strong memory from that season is the Coventry home game - first defeat i'd witnessed and in fact my only defeat in the first 4 years of going (2002-2006) - after saying confidently at half-time that we weren't going to lose the game... It was compounded by the twats next to us in the East Stand who threw something onto the pitch and then promptly did a runner.

Fortress Elm Park indeed. Reading's penchant for Football League records extends beyond Steve Death's 1,074 minutes without conceding a goal, the 13ers and the 106ers.

Reading also held a long-standing Football League record of 55 home games without defeat between April 1933 to January 1935. The record stood for 32 years until Millwall's 59 home games undefeated between August 1964 and January 1967. Liverpool, with 63 games between January 1978 to January 1981 and current record-holders Chelsea with 86 games between March 2004 to October 2008 have bettered the record since.

Given that so many games sold out, it may have come down to no seats being lost due to building of "the studio" for live games, and maybe less segregation netting.

Maybe, for some reason, the Everton game just had more people in the executive boxes, who I assume must count towards the total attendance. We give tickets sold rather than the actual number there as the attendance, so there's a reason why this figure isn't exactly the same for every sold out game.
