From the Reading OS

News on quarter-final clash

After an incredible battle at Valley Parade, the Royals and the Bantams now have to do it all again in a replay to decide who will head to Wembley.

The tie is most likely to be played on Monday 16th March at Madejski Stadium, but cannot be confirmed until the other FA Cup ties have been played.

No other dates are available that week because the FA are not allowed to schedule FA Cup games on the same night as UEFA fixtures, and there is a full programme of Champions League and Europa League games that week.

As a result, our home game against Birmingham would move from its current date of Tuesday 17th March, and would be played on a midweek evening during the week commencing 20th April.

Replay prices would match those of the initial tie:

Adults £15
16 & under £5
65 & over £10
17-21 £10

On sale dates to be confirmed.

Both Reading and Bradford will be in the semi-final draw, which will be made at Old Trafford on Monday evening

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel and Arsenal fan Dermot O'Leary will make the draw, which should occur around 9.45pm following the final quarter final game between the Red Devils and the Gunners, which kicks-off at 7.45pm.

The draw will be screened live on BBC1, who are also showing Monday's match, and via FATV.

Why on earth are we, and Bradford, having to (possibly) play our replay on a Monday night, having both played 2 days earlier? Arsenal and Man Utd seem set to play a replay (should one be necessary) on either Tuesday 7 April or Wednesday 8 April - http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... -announced
What is the rush? The semi final dates are 18th and 19th April.

Interestingly, Villa and West Brom had also identified 7 April as their replay date, had it been needed, having rejected the suggestion from the FA of a Monday 16 March replay, because they also both have fixtures 2 days beforehand just like Reading and Bradford. Annoyingly, we have a fixture away to Blackpool on 6 April, but if Brum (H) can be postponed why can't Blackpool (A)?

I saw somewhere a suggested that it is played on a Friday evening and scrub the Saturday game for Bradford and Reading.

Thus match can be televised without any issues and both sides have a fair crack at getting players ready.

Looks like the Liverpool/Blackburn replay will be 7th or 8th April also.

So what is it with Reading that they can't stand up to the FA then and have it on 7th and postpone the trip to Backpool instead. Or is it more a case of the FL saying you can't do that because it'd destroy the sanctity of the easter league fixtures

But if you do that why not just play on the Saturday?

Well you couldn't have it kicking off 3-5 on the Saturday and the early/late kickoff would be reserved for, or going up against, thw Premier League, so in theory the Friday would make most sense.

We want the television money, we play when they get best viewing figures. Unlikely to be on television now, as Liverpool will be chosen, so assume will now be Tuesday, and no one will care outside of the two clubs.

Read somewhere that it's £100k for replay and £1.8mil if we get to the semis.

Too good an opportunity to pass up, not at all convinced we will do it!

Seems neither Watford of Notts County are prepared to change the Saturday games.

Presumably this is an FA decision, we can't decide when to play it, we play when we are told to.....

Whether it is on tv or not is immaterial in relation to the UEFA rules regarding premier competitions being played at the same time their games are.

The replay will still be shown live, regardless of the date played (on BT Sport) unless Man Utd - Arsenal draw tonight. If they do, the game will definitely be next Monday. If not it may get pushed out.

The main issue here is UEFA's instance in splitting the last 16 round of the CL over 4 weeks rather than 2 meaning that the rest of March is pretty much out for midweek games of note.

Someone should really tell UEFA what to do with their stupid ideas. Honestly what bearing has an FA Cup replay got on the numbers who'll attend games in the CL - or the Johnstone's Paint Trophy of Europe.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but Just got ticket for Watford and during the call discussed the replay date.

Evidently Reading and Bradford asked Watford and Notts County to move the games to Friday and both refused. Can't blame them really

Whole situation reminds me a bit the year we went down from the Prem first time when Portsmouth fielded a weakened side v Fulham. Fulham won and went on to stay up on GD. Hope we don't field a weakened team on Saturday but on the other hand would not blame the club at all if we did.

Not sure if it will be 'weakened' but could understand resting certain players (Pog, Pearce, Msckie) where obvious alternatives are available.

I very much hope we rest players on Saturday if the game is on Monday, the league is over for us this season as I see it, some think we can still be dragged in to the relegation fight, I can't see it. FA Cup is the priority now, play the best team tomorrow and hopefully get a win, rest players against a team we were likely to lose to anyway.
