BFTG Derby

by Sutekh » 01 Oct 2016 18:57

Slow, just too slow. Ponderous, indecisive, insufficient movement. All makes to look passing possession football absolutely dreadful and sad to say Reading suffered from far too much of that today against a dreadful Derby team.

Plan B is take full back off and put Mendes on and stick Moore up as a right winger  have to say that the final 10 were the most entertaining minutes today.

All in all same old problems to the fore and 2 weeks away from it all cant come quick enough. Be really good when the players crack the movement and speed of passing elements of the game rather than just a few bits and pieces here snd there.

Liam Moore was motm and have to say that Gunter and McCleary were well off their games today.

And finally I hope the club have cctv footage of whichever total arse threw the coin at their keeper and that he/she is subsequently banned for life.

Firstly oxf*rd off with sweet caroline.

Secondly, I'm back watching Wolves, how did we ever lose 2-0 to this shambles.

Thirdly, we need to work out how to score against shit teams.

BFTG:Derby

by Westwood52 » 01 Oct 2016 19:07

Got out of jail.
Last 15 minutes good entertainment -rest of the game bit boring.

WE do have a Plan B !

Al Habsi 6: One great save;but very nervy the rest of the time.

Gunter 5: Drop in consistency today-kept giving the ball away 1st half.
Obita 5 : Good 1st half, then defensively fell apart 2nd half.
McShane 5: Bit of a struggle again.
Moore 8 : Superb MOM-one great tackle when Vydra was in.
Evans:7: In the right place at the right time for the goal & you can't always say that about the rest of the team,
Williams 5: Kept on falling over.
Swift 7: Our one creative spark.
Macca 6: Offered very little-looked rusty.
Kermit 7: Made the goal give him credit for that.
Beerens 4: Totally gutless.

Mendes 6: Really not sure about him.
Harriot 6: A poor first touch-needs to work on that.

Ref: Poor but not very poor.

Good to see Pierce and Vydra are still crap.

Worst home performance of the season .Did not deserve a draw against a fairly poor Derby side. Turgid stuff.

The Derby supporters seemed to be more bothered about our home support than actually singing for their team

Not sure about Pierce but Pearce did quite well, not that he was tested too much.

Seeing you equalised on 90 minutes was the highlight of my miserable football day.

Don't worry, you are in for an easy ride on October 29th

Happy with a point after that. Typical that that useless, couldn't score in a brothel, overpaid, overrated w"%+er scored for them but spose that was on the cards.
The one positive was we showed fight at the end, hopefully we can build on another run.

Agree with all of the above, it was seriously difficult to watch today. But additionally - why oh why is Kermogant so scared of shooting on goal - unless it's a header, he just doesn't seem to want to know!

Who knows in this division. When the fixtures came out October looked like a great month for home fixtures. Derby, Villa & Forest but all 3 clubs look weak at the moment and unlikely to challenge.

Even more boring than Ian Royal.

Slow passing in front of an awful Derby side who didn't look threatened at all until we, having not done so for the previous 85 minutes, suddenly decided to try and attack them.

Having been useless in a Reading shirt last season, Vydra managed to score from a yard out as a result of a free kick given away by the awful Chris Gunter. Blackman was as popular as ever. Shout Out to the two Derby fans who sang about our home support, shame their fellow Derby fans couldn't be bothered to join in.

Al Habsi - Couldn't decide whether his save from Vydra was as a result of great goalkeeping or Vydra, at 5 yards, being slightly out of his striking range, went with great goalkeeping in the end. Couple of moments where he was close to calamity. 7

Gunter - Shocking. Gave the ball away several times. His Indecisiveness led to the free kick for their goal. 4
McShane - Looks so nervous when the ball is passed to him. Solid defensively for the most part. 6
Moore - Calm and composed, very good footballer as evidenced by his wing play, late on. 8 motm
Obita - Fairly solid today couple of times he got the wrong side of his man but not bad. 6

Evans - Good to see him get the goal but needs to show for the ball better. 6
Williams - Couple of driving runs that resulted in free kicks. Some of his team mates could have used some of Williams drive. 7
Swift - Not a good game for him, couple of nice turns but fairly anonymous besides a free kick that tested Carson. 6

McCleary - That stupid red at Barnsley was the worst thing he could have done for his form. Anonymous and deservedly subbed. 5
Kermorgant - Desperately needs someone to play up front with him, looked better when Mendes came on but with Stam's formation and style he's unlikely to get that. Should have had a shot in the second half but chose to try and cut a pass back instead. 6
Beerens - Good first half but went quiet after that. needs to be braver and stay on his feet in the box rather than going over easily. 6

Subs:

Harriett - Looked to get forward and tested Carson with a shot that seemed to jolt us into life. Couple of heavy touches which got him in trouble and gave away a silly free kick. 6

Mendes - Still not convinced by what I've seen but his presence did help Yann out. 6

Brentford was a blip. We looked solid again at the back again. But I've said that Stam has sorted out the back line for some time now; and the problems are still very apparent with the attacking play.

It's blatantly obvious we seem to still need work with the two players either side of kermie.

Obita, Swift and beerens linked up well in the first half, but it fizzled out and Obita became isolated when trying to play out. I think Beerens was just knackered in that second half. Gunter, Williams and Mcleary on the other side just didn't seem to even want to work today. Mcleary looked knackered from the get-go.

If we are to play with any attacking threat alongside Kermorgant, we need to get Mcleary & Beerens involved more. They are playing so far away from the target man, it's just not going to work as it is.

Maybe Stam could get Marc Overmars & Roy Makaay to give us some tips there

Overall I'm happy with where we are in the table; but you can't help but think about where we COULD be with a bit more firepower in this team.

Defense was solid. They had to absorb a lot as the midfield was completely overrun. We've needed Beerens and McCleary to play off of Kermorgant's shoulder, but today I thought they were sorely needed as wingers. Beerens was running infield every time Obita got the ball giving Jordan a lack of outlet.

Gunter had one of those days.

Derby are bigger stronger and more athletic than Reading and they made that work for them. Christie had Beerens in his pocket.

Has the opposition sussed out Swift? Absolutely no space to create anything. For concerns I have see: 1st 10 games vs rest of Reading careers of Guthrie and Norwood.

I got the feeling that they spent 10 minutes 'doing the passing' as per Stam's instructions before resorting to trying to always play the killer ball.

Dull game, didn't enjoy it, but do like Derby's away kit.

Swift was exceptional.

Harriett atrocious. Surprised to see people giving him a rating of 6!

The game - boring until the last 10mins.

We looked a bit blunt today & Derby sussed us out quite quickly, we need a decent Plan B and Plan C. Also...why such hate towards Blackman when he came on ?

What about Swift was exceptional? I'm happy to concede that I may be wrong, but he looked to be almost completely nullified today.

The way he left on a peak, because he stole a living for all but the last 3 months of his time in Reading, the glaring at the fans when he scored and because we love a panto villain.

Ahh yes.. I remember that 'look' well when he scored that day... tw*t. Well, 20 games at Derby and one goal... which was a penalty. We had the last laugh with a 3 Million fee :)

It was Vydra who scored - not Blackman. :D
