MATCHWATCH : Nottingham Forest (a) sponsored by nearly there now

by Sutekh » 20 Apr 2017 09:12

Another trip beckons on a Saturday afternoon. This time the destination of the once mighty Nottingham Forest. Last time Reading travelled away on a Saturday to a team beginning with the letters “NO” is best forgotten so I’ll only mention it needlessly, just now, in this paragraph.

The “tricky trees” are not having the best of times at the moment and struggling to avoid another sojourn in Division 3 (or whatever name it was masquerading under then). Their current form sees them on one win from eight games. However that one win was at home to Huddersfield and when you consider they have also beaten Brighton, Leeds and Newcastle plus gained a draw with Fulham all at home it all rather points to the fact this is not going to be an easy game.

As an aside, a long time ago, Reading were consigned to that very division by a late van Hooijdonk goal so it would be rather nice to give a little payback on that and make their struggle that bit harder.

Forest will be without loanee striker Ross McCormack who recently underwent an operation to remove 5 cysts from his jaw. Manager Mark Warburton will also weigh up whether to opt for Michael Mancienne or Matt Mills in defence.

Reading. Same old faces still missing though Berg may get a place on the bench. Evans and Ilori both recently returned to the squad and have strengthened those defensive options – and who knows perhaps even McShane may not be too far away. Expectation though is that Jaap will perm another variation from the players he’s been using most recently though.

Referee

For the fourth time this season, County Durham’s Geoff Eltringham steps up to oversee Reading’s immediate playing future

Previously

17 Mar 2017 > Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Reading
04 Feb 2017 > Ipswich Town 2-2 Reading
13 Dec 2016 > Leeds United 2-0 Reading
02 Apr 2016 > Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Reading
12 Dec 2015 > Preston North End 1-0 Reading
07 Apr 2015 > Blackpool 1-1 Reading
23 Nov 2013 > Blackburn Rovers 0-0 Reading
14 Feb 2012 > Derby County 0-1 Reading

Historically

For the nineteenth time Reading head to the City ground for a league battle. Of the previous eighteen battles Reading have lost on ten occasions and won just five. Reading have only kept two clean sheets in those games and one of those was a goalless draw. Goal wise Reading have scored nineteen and conceded thirty-six.

Is Tshibola injured again? Doesn't seem to be getting much game time for Forest.

2 starts and 2 sub appearances in 3 months.

And the other question, had he not gone to Villa, how would he fit into the current team, if at all?

As bitter as I was about his exit (albeit for a good fee) I won't pretend he didn't look talented last season. If he had stayed I could picture him possibly being in a similar place Evans is in. Behind Williams and JVDB. All in all his and Norwoods sale have helped us enormously.

yep, selling those two has funded our season. I liked Tshibola, but no idea what has happened to him. Couldn't see any mention on a quick scan through a Forest forum.

No idea on the result on this one. They sound a bit like the opposite of us that they are rubbish 80% of the time, and great 20% of the time. Could either be a nice comfortable stroll to confirm a top 6 spot, or a 3-0 battering.

We don't miss Norwood at all. For all the Hollywood passes and 25yd screamers, he was largely ineffectual. Swift is twice the player.

I was disappointed when Tshibola left, however, Moore but no Tshibola is preferable to Tshibola but no Moore.

we are a far better side without Norwood in it imo, and I thought that last year as well. Him and Williams were a rancid midfield last year. Kelly is the player Norwood wanted to be but Kelly is far better

Me too 8)

Scrapping for their lives and this is the championship.
Like the weather it's pointless trying to predict !

Warburton is an astute manager. He had Brentford playing some lovely football before he decided to head to Scotland. He's had nowhere near enough time to turn forest into a decent side but they will make it very tough.

I'll go 1-1 and me to lose my coat (again) in Nottingham !

I once heard of a man who lost his coat in the midlands, legends say he threw it into a crowd of people.

Would take a draw tbh. Brighton, Newcastle, Huddersfield and Leeds have all lost at Forest this year

Just for the record a Reading win today guarantees a play off place

However, just turning up guarantees a play off place if other results go our way

Good to see (although wish he was playing) Mccleary sat in with away fans but considering he is quite vocal about some of our support or lack of it he might find this afternoon frustrating listening to the numpty comments most decent knowledgeable fans have to listen to from others week in week out.

All a bit cr@p at the moment, offering nothing by way of attacking threat and being outplayed by Forest

Still with Fulham losing at the moment we're in the play offs whatever happens
