MATCHWATCH : Hull City (a) sponsored by Nigel Adkins

by Sutekh » 26 Jul 2019 10:02

When : Saturday 10th August, 3pm
Where : KCOM Stadium, The Circle, Walton St, Hull, HU3 6HU
Capacity 25,404
Away Stand : North East Corner
What might I see in the area : A bridge

First away trip is a long distance effort to a ground Reading have never won on. So probably a good one to get out of the way early on.

Hull have parted company with Nigel and Grant McCann is now in control. Other than that don't really know too much about them this close season but last season they veered from the very good to the very bad and then back again so this is certainly another club that will give Reading a very difficult time of it.

Referee

TBC

Historically

This will be the 26th league trip to Hull for Reading. The previous visits have yielded 7 wins, 10 draws and 8 defeats. There is a bit of an issue starting to develop though as Reading's last win in Hull was in 1994 at Boothferry Park which means Reading are yet to win at Hull's nice not quite so new shiny plastic spakkerdome. In the 6 visits there Reading have managed 4 draws.

How to follow the game

  1. Get a ticket and travel all the way up north
  2. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use an iFollow subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Looking forward to this one, got my cheap trains a while back. Will be interesting to see how Hull do with McCann but they have made a couple of decent signings - I always rated Ryan Taffazoli from Peterborough. I think we can win this and will be a good day out in good drinking city.

Have they kept hold of their front 3? They're class and tore us apart in the second half at theirs last season. But I didn't envisage them keeping them together; Bowen in particular is clearly cut out to play at a higher level.

Are they doing their £18 tickets again like last season?

Looking forward to this - a ground I’ve yet to visit & a relatively short journey from Notts.

Hope we take a decent enough number and it’s a winnable game

Shurely the thread should be sponsored by Nigel Atkins?

Or Gomez misses Atkins?

Bit of a loss as to what we should do with this game. Don't believe in wholesale changes after one result or dropping people for one poor performance, but that XI against Wednesday wasn't good at all.

Wonder if Boye will be in the running yet? Bench or straight in? And who for? Barrett presumably... although he was far from the worst of our front four.

Ideally I'd like to see:

........................Virginia^
..Yiadom, Miazga, Moore, Richards
...............Rinomhota, Swift*
Meite..... .........Olise...............Barrow
...................Novakovich

^can't justify dropping him for one soft performance, especially for Walker who was awful v Chelsea.
*Genuinely never thought I'd think Swift was our best partner for Rino. How awful is that.

Similar enough but I’d go:

Virginia

Yiadom
Morrison
Moore
McIntyre
Richards

Rino
Swift
Olise

Meite
Baldock

Walker, Miazga, Blackett/Howe, Adam, Boyé, Barrow, Novakovich

Miazga wasn’t ready IMO, I think Wycombe will be a good game to integrate him into

Don’t like five at the back but Bowen and Grosicki will have too much for Yiadom and Richards so we’ll need the extra cover IMO, especially with no midfield cover

But if he wants to stick with the 4-2-3-1 I’d play Yiadom as one of the holding midfielders. Daft as it sounds, our fullbacks push on miles too much for us to play Swift and Rino as the holding midfielders against the best winger duo in the league. We need more cover

Same team but Olise for Loader I think. Possibly Novakovich or Baldock for Barrett as well

Give the defence another chance before making changes, as there will inevitably be for Wycombe

Yeah, there's an argument for playing the same team and telling them to go out and do it properly too.

Definitely want to see a lot of changes v Wycombe.

John Smith I always rated Ryan Taffazoli from Peterborough.

One that trialled for us, after he left Southampton's academy. Ended up at Concord Rangers.
