Wouldn’t be surprised to see three or even four start. Think we will see Ovie, Rafael, Joao and possibly Pele

Potentially I could see Gomes going with three centre backs as well. In that case I’d have Meite and Joao up front, with Swift, Rino and Either Pele or Ejaria in midfield

While many of us like the idea (personally I think its a necessity), has Gomes ever indicated that he's particularly a fan of 3 at the back?

Having a stronger shield in front of the defence is more of a necessity.

Thought he went that route a couple of times away from home towards the end of last season (Norwich maybe?). Think he used Yiadom as the third centre back

Yep, Norwich away and also Bristol City away. Yiadom was shifted across into the middle then, but you'd expect Morrison to be there this season (or McIntyre).

Only 3 debuts in the starting XI. Pele, Boye and Joao. Virginia in goal again...

It did feel like 3 days isn't enough to integrate a keeper, plus it gives Virginia a second chance to shine.

Ejaria, very little time to get up to speed so makes sense too.

Surprised no Loader at all, especially Olise ahead on the bench. Totally ok with it, just didn't expect it. Barrett in and no Barrow so the rumours of his exit seem very strong.

I think it's not quite the settled first XI, but it's closer and we should have a greater presence upfront and a stronger midfield. Time for Swift to deliver in his best position. Pretty big strong wings too!

Understandable selection.

Not sure Rafael speaks English so sensible to give him some time to get up to speed with calls etc.

Hoping Puscas can engage beast mode off the bench against a tiring defence. He's also played through the summer so no need to throw him straight into the fray.

Looks like Barrow may be on his way.

Hoping Lucus Boye will tear a new hole in the backsides of the hull defence
