Bracknell have re-signed Carl Davies and going into the Coggeshall game would appear to finally have a fully fit squad although 3 players will be missing through unavailability such as life is at amateur non league level.

Bracknell have also signed striker Mitchell Parker, most recently at Hartley Wintney, but in doing so have revealed a right old state of affairs as it appears Mitchell never received international clearance when he returned to England from Portugal several years ago and in that time he has played for, among others, Reading City/Highmoor, Basingstoke and Hartley Wintney not to mention FA representative games so whether that means there will be some sort of restrospective punishment to be handed out to those involved or whether it’ll just be be filed under “unfortunate” remains to be seen.

I was wondering where Mitchell 'more clubs than Tiger' Parker was going to pop up again as I knew he left Hartley a little while back.

I didn't realise he'd had a mid-game strop and walked off though!

Interesting interview with Terry Brown, Basingstoke chairman on the Non League podcast regarding their pretty dire situation. They have a 30 year covenant to play at the Camrose ground. The current owner cannot obtain planning permission for development there unless he funds their new ground at Winklebury to the same grading and facilities as at the Camrose. So far he refuses to do so.
He has a weekly football budget of £500 and out of that is £57 in travel expenses for a loanee from Wimbledon. They have 151 season ticket holders and have no income as any profits from the bar belong to Winchester.

Yep, and here's a statement by Brown earlier this year:

(Edit: Recall watching Terry quite a few times as a player at Wokingham Town many years ago (back when they had whippet racing on the pitch prior to the game!). As a striker, he looked ungainly but he was effective and scored many goals.)

Over 9k at Notts County v AFC Fylde yesterday (think that it was promoted as being a freebie day for the attendees tbf)

- Having wisely decided against Barnet and dodging a stalemate, we FINALLY made it to a game at Bristol Telephones (3-3 with Devizes) at about the fourth or fifth attempt.
- Home sides first points of the season.
- Brsitol ring-road was iffy and M4 jn 11 was it’s usual obstinate self but we got here for KO just.
- A bewildering array of sports pitches in the vicinity, with at least two other Somerset County games on the go – Stockwood Wanderers ground is next door; shares a narrow entrance off the main road in Kingswood (Stockwood Lane) – easy to drive into the wrong ground. Further down the Lane is another entrance to a lower division club Cutters Friday. I parked in SWFC's overflow carpark anyway as with Football and Rugby on the go 'Phone's car park was full – fortunately theirs was also a 15:00 KO, so I wasn’t going to be locked in.
- 'Phones' share their clubhouse with the BTRA Rugby side – their game was in progress too on an adjacent pitch – possibly about the same number of spectators (30 odd)

Decent win for Bracknell at the weekend, that was much more like it. Ground out the win and showed a bit of backbone. Good to see Carl Davies back at the club. Lacks a bit of pace and flair but is a good leader at the back and does the basics well.

Four Of Clubs 24 Chalfont St. Peter 0-1 Whitstable Town

After an aborted attempt at Hitchin Town (M4 closed, M40 fckd) I ended up here.
The place is an absolute tip, def in my top 3 of worst football grounds ever visited. Where to start?

No programmes, never a good sign.
Rubbish and broken stuff lying about everywhere.
The clubhouse doubles up as a pre school. Toys, etc all over the floor in the main viewing area.
No tv with any latest scores, etc
Clubhouse smoke alarm beeping throughout
pitch had what can only be described as 2 mini trenches running down one flank. Surely a danger to players and must result in injuries.
Spectators unable to exit the ground during the game, which resulted in me operating the turnstiles to let people out

If you are ever thinking of going here, try somewhere else.

Given the problems they have, and despite the fact that a few of their fans apparently don't like Winchester City, I gave them a vote on the below. Non-league fans on here may wish to do the same.

Ryan Parsons has re-signed for Windsor on dual registration. Must be 6+ Years since he last played for us. 35 now, but we need a bit of class and leadership on the pitch and he should provide that.

Also signed a chap called Excellence Mahumba. I can’t find anything about him but am told he is a blonde striker. I didn’t believe that.

Langley have just signed 19 players according to the excellent Football in Berkshire blog. 19! From the names on the list it appears they may be becoming the Travellers’ team of choice in the area.

Royal Wootton Bassett 2-4 Windsor

Poor 1st half the only high point being a debut goal from Excellence Mahumba. We looked 2nd best much of the time.

Manager went off with a face like thunder.

The utterly hopeless Adjei was subbed off at half time - how he is still getting a game is beyond me. I sussed him out after 2 friendlies.

Then we came out looking completely different and dominated the game.

Unfortunately old glass legs Keaton August went off injured in the 1st half. I don’t trust that it was as bad as it appeared to be so hopefully he will be back soon; although he’s certainly not as good as he (and his parents think) he does make things happen.

Results Sat 5th October

FA Cup 3rd Qualifying

01 Ashton United 2-6 Spennymoor Town
02 Halesowen Town 0-2 Altrincham
03 Hednesford Town 4-2 Blyth Spartans
- Got to this with about 10’ to spare via M40-M42- M6 Toll Rd – as usual worst part of the journey was traversing ‘ding at lunchtime  - luckily the Oxford Ring was untroubled, so we were able to recover some time up the M40/42 and of course the pretty empty Toll.
- Very impressive stadium and performance to match, from the home side – albeit Spartans are bottom of the division immediately above them (NATN) though brought a fair number down – crowd officially 616.
- Town (a.k.a. The Pitmen) are currently 2nd so the clubs might cross over for next season – though obviously Blyth will not be moving down into the Southern League :?
- Sadly too late for any matchday progs but picked up one from the previous weeks league game vs AFC R&D as a memento – got a badge too.

Fleet Town

Tadley Calleva 1-3 Hamworthy United

A notable score in this section: Portland Utd {TWELVE} 12-2 Amesbury Town – over 100 crowd too
– Amesbury are ‘re-building’ the side with a new manager appointed late last week – having lost a lot of their promotion winning squad from the 18-19 season.
- he evidently has a challenge on his hands – but they did manage to put a side out – though reportedly ‘much patched-up’

WESS1
Alton 3-1 New Milton Town - Brewers up to 3rd - visit Whitchurch this midweek - (Wed)
Andover New Street 5-0 Pewsey Vale – worth mentioning (perhaps) 8) that ANS host their very near neighbours ATFC on Tuesday night at Foxcotte
- other than a few Andover Open Cup ties, I doubt these two have faced each other in a competitive game for many a year.
- I did some delving and to my surprise it was actually as recent as 13-14, when a newly formed 'Andover Town' joined the Wessex league. Their forebears 'Andover' were formed in 1898 and had a few dalliances with the old Southern League before finally folding in 2011. I'm pretty sure they never dropped low enough to meet New Street in the league.
- I would suggest those meetings 6 yrs back, might be the only time in their recent history that New Street had met the 'senior' Andover club in a league match. It was 0-2 to Town in the corresponding fixture @ ANS back then: with 120 in attendance and then 3-2 for Town’s ‘home’ fixture which, for reasons I can’t be @rsed to research  , was held at Winklebury in Basingstoke? They didn’t move back into their own Stadium (Portway) until December for that season – was probably undergoing a tidy-up.
- last season they had been demoted to STEP06 for refusing promotion back to STEP04 - by which time ANS had achieved their first promotion up to STEP05 so they missed each other.
- particularly intriguing is that this next fixture will see New Street as overwhelming favourites
- might try and get there a) to see who gains bragging rights, if there are any b) to check the crowd size – expect them to get a few more for the return fixture at Portway later in the season too.

Newport (IoW) 0-2 Petersfield Town
Ringwood Town 1-1 Andover Town
United Services Portsmouth 4-2 Whitchurch United

- Plan A is to try and head far west (M5 permitting :? ) I think my mate would like to try for Barnstaple's Trophy tie with Thatcham - however the two clubs are in the same division: so not a criteria I would favour when selecting Cup games
- I might lower his sights a bit and pull 'drivers prerogative' heading further south for one of a cluster of Vase ties around Exeter. Exmouth v Portland would be the prime because: i) the home side are in one on of our 'targetted' leagues ii) the visitors are in fine goalscoring form, racking up 17 in their last two games.
- the other two ties closer to Exeter are both decent though:
Hellenic Premier runaway leaders, Westfields @ SWPL outfit Newton Abbot ;
Hellenic Div One Ab Utd at free-scoring SWPL side Bovey Tracey - hosts scored over 60 goals in their first 12 league games.

Alton v Andover New Street - ... as mentioned in the review last w/e, I got to the Andover 'derby' on Tue night - great crowd in for these two who haven't met very often - certainly not in the league -att 248 and the match was of surprisingly decent standard for the full 90' +
ANS finally got the better of their younger visitors from Town but it was a very even contest.

Andover Town v Hythe & Dibden
Laverstock & Ford v Whitchurch United - watched the 'JamBoys' overcome Alton 4-2 on a very wet night down at Longmeadow on Wed evening. Conditions were bordering on the torrential at times but the game was played in decent spirit at a good pace.

The comedy club at Windsor have out done themselves by putting Italian names for their 'stands' now. However i think the printers must have thought this was embarrassing and one end is called if translated back to english as...The Bell End.

And thats on a day when the chairman/owner says he thinks he can get the club to "football league division one" when he can't even do a deal to keep the clubs future at the ground in this wonderful video https://twitter.com/JoshuaB_BM/status/1 ... 8982715393

I'd say in terms of population only Maidenhead and Slough have ANY chance of being a sustainable league two club and even then both have a long long way to get there!

It was embarrassing. Bracknell really miss Mark Scott when he doesn't play, no way that goes in with him in goal.

- - Made it to this one – M5 well-behaved and the rain held off until late 2nd half. Portland rather tame bearing in mind their recent goalscoring feats. Hosts were a fairly typical big uncomplicated efficient Western league outfit. Will be a test for anyone on their own turf
- Still got three long range ‘ticks’ to complete the Western league – Parkway, Tavistock and Buckland

102 Newton Abbot Spurs 0-8 {EIGHT} Westfields – Hellenic leaders far too strong for the SWP side.

- Worthy of mention: in Div One West the hitherto pointless and hapless ‘Stundents’ from New College (Sw!nedon) finally picked up their first points of this season with a 1-1 draw at home to Tytherington – who admittedly usually share the lower levels of that division with NCS.
- New College have played 8 league games and have racked up a negative GD of 58! They have also shipped a further 21 goals in their three cup ties to date.
- They are level on points with newcomers Bourton Rovers. They host Clanfield 85 tomorrow night (Mon) but it’s extremely doubtful that their successful run will continue.
- Their next two games are potentially winnable though – they travel to a wretched Abingdon Town - currently bottom of One East with only 3 points - for a Supplementary Cup tie next Saturday; THEN go to Bourton on the 26th.
