Fakesnow today:
Any manager would expect to get sacked with that record. And we're getting worse not better.

Fake snow 15th September "we are improving"

A lot of people are mentioning Hughton as a possible replacement. I'd be thrilled if this happens, but do we not need a bit of realism? We were last in the Premier League in 2013. Since we came down, we have largely been a below average Championship team with a couple of exceptions. He'll be joining our third consecutive relegation battle. His career to date has been at top end Championship/ lower premier league, at clubs who are historically bigger than us (and Brighton).

I'm not saying it's an impossible appointment. Contrary to what they'd have you believe, Brighton are not a huge club either. But they were able to offer him an exciting opportunity with a new stadium and clear upward trajectory. The question we need to ask is, can Howe convince him it's an exciting time to join us? We have ambitious owners, the Bearwood project is almost complete, our Academy remains a great asset. So maybe with the right manager and set up, there is great potential. But it just seems very hard to believe right now.

As for Gomes, I think he should leave. I see no evidence to suggest he will turn this around; nothing seems to be changing. But I do worry about replacing him. We're in a cycle of start shit, sack manager, survive, repeat. Rather like Sunderland and Villa used to be in PL. It's not sustainable; you need a genuine improvement in fortunes or you will go down eventually. I think the club and playing squad is in a much better state than 12 months ago, but our losing mentality is proving to be incredibly difficult to shake off.

Of the recent sackings I would have to say:

Clarke: Deserved sacking that coincided with a massive downturn in form after speaking with Fulham
McDermott: Absolutely treated like garbage, never given proper backing, undeserved sacking.
Stam: Was clearly given more time than most would afford him due to the success of the previous season but clearly wasn't turning things around, right decision.
Clement: In my opinion, harsh, results seemed to be picking up, even if it wasn't the best entertainment.

Right now Gomes, we at times seem to click and play some great stuff but it's all so inconsistant and we'll often go a full half of absolutely terrible stuff and we're already 1 or 2 down before we start playing well, he might get a few more games but he must be on the verge of being sacked right now.

Remember the game-plan this time last year Ian?

He was brought in as the rebuild...we are still rebuilding

Bit surprised about you Ian....you are normally very tolerant and pro-manager.

Let us rewind one year, calm down and reassess.

We have a talented squad, we have decent backers, we have a manager that knows the players a darn-sight better than me or you.

Give it time

He hasn’t done enough. We don’t score. We concede. The tactics are substandard at best. My only problem is the three games we have after the break. A new man coming in could easily get 0 points from the next three and already people will be pressuring him. But on balance, I’d like him to go

Is Gomes a great manager? Probably not. Can we get a great manager? Probably not. Are we better off giving a manager time to learn vs continuously dumping weak managers for weak managers in a stagnant cycle? Probably.

Being part of the shite club manager merry-go-round is less appealing than sticking with an unknown quantity who may (we don't know) improve, given time to learn from the lessons the championship brings.

I really don't see any evidence at all that there is any chance of JG turning this around. The tactics are wrong, the players body language is wrong but most of all, where is his pedigree to at least give us some hope.

His has no record to fall back on. His appointment was a huge gamble. Its time to say thanks but it hasn't worked out.

Can we still call it a rebuild, whilst we sit in 22nd place with teams around us showing improvement? I’d call that a team in freefall; and he was brought in to turn things round.
