Hughton
Ainsworth
Warnock

In that order.

Hound
genome Mark Hughes has only ever managed in the Premier League, am I right? And some of you are immediately turning your nose up... fans of a club who have been battling relegation to League One for years?

Some of our fans are hilarious.

it would actually be my main concern with him that he is in effect too good - and doesn't actually know the champ very well

Yep agree with Hound as usual, his record is only blotted by QPR - basketcase, and a lack of direct experience of what the Chump is like.

If you think he's a terrible appointment you really need to reassess your view on football and where we are.

Arguably a stroke of luck that all the loanees worked out so well. Really was a last roll of the dice. Could have easily been disasterous.

Stroke of luck that all the loanees worked out so well? Really?? That is pretty much on par with the person who argued that Gomes had nothing to do with the loan signings and pretty much implied that the loanees would have ensured we survived regardless of any input from a coach/manager. It's also at odds with comments from some of the players, like Rinomhota who have praised the contribution that Gomes made (makes) and said how the players feel more comfortable and enjoy the style of football that he encourages (no, not losing, before one of the negative types on here says it!).

I believe he gave the players a lift and got them engaged and wanting to do well for the club in the same way that he got the fans back on side and very supportive in the second half of last season.

I don't think he did have anything to do with the loans did he?

undoubtedly did a very good job getting them playing for the club and buying into the team. Emi, Miazga and Baker were basically our three biggest cheerleaders last spring

Players say nice things about every manager. They loved Stam. If he's so good and they enjoy it so much they should try doing a bit of defending and win a game.

Not everyone loves him

For all his much lauded great man management, Gomes has managed to treat Baldock, Gunter, McCleary, Mannone and Kelly quite badly.

He's openly criticised Kelly, Loader, Puscas and Joao in the press as well from what I remember.

Plus dropping Richards, Rinomhota and Meite (multiple times) for no good reason.

It's hard to call that good man management and motivation. I can't think of another manager you could list that many players for, including ones who been in post years.

His method was to come in and wield the axe, probably to shit the players up and make them work harder, and eliminate the bad apples. Obviously that worked temporarily and probably kept us up, but if you don't all of shift them on in the summer/keep alienating the fringe squad members, I think that method is going to bite you on the arse sooner rather than later.

And McNulty.

Being ruthless is accepted, if it works. This season, it's not working.

Exactly that

And you reckon McCleary and Gunter don’t keep in contact with the likes of Moore and Swift? Esp as Gunts and Swift appear to be besties when G isn’t around

I'm fed up with all this chopping and changing. why do we sack a manager every year? Could it be because when a new manager comes in he wants to bring in new players, then it will take time for them to "gel", time runs out, sack manager, start the music again, more new players, stop the music, get rid, another new manager. It goes on and on. Time to keep the music going a bit longer to give players more time to "gel".

...and to mis-quote The Mammas and the Pappas, and no-one’s getting fat except the size of the squad.

What?

I shall no longer be entertaining speculation around Hughes as it won't happen.

I said in a different thread about how Wycombe Wanderers being 2nd in League 1 should mean Ainsworth is given the job as I think he would be able to do it on a budget. I wouldn't be adverse to Hughton either as he's a Championship specialist and given enough money in the summer we could push for promotion next season - as every season is different at this level.

I’d be happy with both of these tbf

Wycombe ended the 2018–19 season in 17th-place, three points clear of the relegation zone

Might as well keep gomes on that record

Can you confirm what he has done this season? I’d be interested to know if it was exactly the same as last season.

No it's because we keep signing shit managers with no Championship, or even managerial, pedigree.

He is doing enough to keep his job for the time being. But the circumstances are completely different.
You would need to look at the whole infrastructure, debt liability etc. etc. etc.

Then those with the money or big hole in their pockets depending on what happens are entitled to take whatever decision they see fit.

Emotion won't come into it. Seems Gomes wasn't meeting their expectations and it has been deemed necessary to give someone else a go.
Fair do's, its their money

Of all of those McNulty probably has the best case.id say.

Meite, Rinomhota and Richards are still getting games. And Kelly and Mannone were just plain shit.
