Russel Kempson was a reporter on the Royals for the Evening Post back in the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t totally agree with what he saying but he has a point. There is a thin line between showboating and taking the piss. If you do a flick or a back heal and has a positive outcome it’s fine. Let’s face it Swift is not adverse to doing this in normal play.
He is right though this was not a great performance by any stretch and was flattering given the circumstances and too many Reading players think they are better than they actually are.

Hard not to agree somewhat, but he over-eggs the Christmas pudding. First second half Derby Yellows were 55 and 60 minute. Were their players prescient, knowing we’d showboat in 20 minutes time?

Kempson is a grade one prick, always a good idea to check who writes the article before continuing , negative is his middle name.
Derby gave us plenty of problems up until they ran out of steam, why not keep the bloody ball, whats the problem with that?

Based on what - a few tricks when you are 3-0 up and the oppo have 8 players on a yellow card?

Don’t see it. Not really anyway, they seem a relatively humble bunch

If we are 3-0 at home against a 10 man team I want my players to express themselves and try things.

Would love Kempson to get his head smashed in.

The comment I disagreed with most was his remarks around only picking up draws from Barnsley and Stoke.

It's a shame as he was a really decent local journo back in the day, probably time to retire...

I don't think there was much showboating.
What I did like were the inventive flicks in and around Derby's penalty area-whether they have been working on those who knows but Joao and Baldock combined brilliantly on a couple of occasions.

It won't always work, as it doesn't always work with Liverpool's fab front three, but good to see them trying and in a tight game such inventiveness could mean the difference between winning and drawing or losing.

It has been some time since we have seen players like Swift, Ejaria and Baldock having the understanding to do these things-more please.

Just seen that Kempson article. What a crock of shite.

At a time when club and fans want the club to get tough, dirty and ugly you get this clown pumping out this nonsense. For the love of god retire this has been and get better guest article writers in.

No surprises there then. Let’s hope Reading get a decent fee considering his contract position. Not going to be as good as in the summer when the club appeared to “pull” the proposed Wolves deal of course, but then they would only have themselves to blame.

Kempston's articles are universally awful these days. Can't help but feel that with the squeeze on local journalism, someone at the Post thought he might appreciate a couple of quid thrown his way as a cheap freelance option to fill a few lines of copy because he was the only name in their contacts book.
