Are the FL really going to be bothering about the crazy nonsense that is FFP ?

And we’ve got an obvious solution. We buybthe stadium back off the owners for £1 and then they buy it again for £40 million. Sorted. We can do this every season, so is sustainable and in line with the spirit of FFP.

I believe UEFA have suspended FFP for their competitions

UEFA's statement read: "The deadlines related to all 2020/21 UEFA club competitions are postponed until further notice, in particular as regards the admission process and the registration of players. UEFA will set new deadlines in due course."

The governing body have reiterated that these exceptional circumstances would lead to FFP rules being relaxed for participation in next season's European competitions.

The statement continued: "The Executive Committee reiterated its full commitment to club licensing and financial fair play and agreed that the current exceptional circumstances necessitate some specific interventions to facilitate the work of member associations and clubs."

"This decision applies exclusively for participation in the 2020/21 UEFA club competitions."

Jeez, so much for being free of FP constraints next season (Covid19 factor excluded) that's much more than the loss we'd have purged from the records at the end of this season that screwed us hard!

We hold the record, £225:

https://footballeconomyv2.blogspot.com/ ... g.html?m=1

Reading’s wage bill increased by £5.4 million in 2018/19. Excluding the unusual loan fee Reading therefore paid £225 in wages for every £100 of income which is a Championship record, beating Birmingham’s £202 under Harry Redknapp.

"Majedski Stadium".

Come back to me when someone who can actually spell properly says something meaningful.

Looking forward to Kingsley being sold to the owners next year for £45million. Running out of things to sell after him though.

How/why did we suddenly spend so much at the end of last summer? I still don't understand last summer at all. "we're broke, we're broke, we're broke, OMG we're rich spend spend spend."

Think it was mostly staggered payments so we didn't actually spend that much.

Even so, it's baffling how we got through the summer without a massive fire sale.

We are fully reliant on funding from our owners. Gourlay screwed us big time.

So whilst you may curse China for Corona, without our Chinese owners we would be in administration.

This would have been a major story but for all thats going on. Normally this would have resulted in a big points reduction which if the season finished now at it was 9 its then we would be safe on goal difference only subject to any others also getting points deductions. They are talking about FFP being suspended but surely that would refer to this season not last??

I would have thought that if we complete this season, whenever, that points deduction will still apply otherwise teams at the bottom would have a good case for suing the EFL if they are relegated

If this season is wiped out then we may have to carry any penalties through to the next season.

Whatever they decide I would have thought its more likely than not that penalties may still apply

It's incredible that the club can spend so much and be so consistently terrible. Is it six seasons out of seven now that we've been in or near a relegation battle?

Ultimately it's down to poor recruitment, buying overrated and unmotivated players for fees that are too high, and paying them over the odds on wages. It's quite simply catastrophic mismanagement.

The only upside of the club getting into such financial difficulty and the consequent penalties whatever they turn out to be is that we are recently such a poor side.

Imagine if this was 2006 - we'd be gutted

Very much depends on your definition of “relegation battle”. I’d argue we were only really in two (2017/18 and to a lesser extent 2018/19). But we have finished in the bottom half in five of the last six seasons if you include this one.

Think one of our major problems is that we have a really big squad. We have 22 senior pros, not counting those out on loan, and counting Rinomhota but not Richards or Watson. It’s ridiculous - on any given match day we’re paying at least four players at least thousand pounds each to sit in the stands.

That’s partially due to our utterly ridiculous turnover in managers, every manager wanting to impose their own style, every manager “needing” one transfer window where they are “properly backed”.

In 2005 we started the season with seventeen senior players competing for sixteen match day slots. Let’s go back to that sort of squad size. Academy goalkeeper on the bench with six senior outfield players, no more signing players as cover for our substitutes, appoint a proven manager and give them at least three years.

With the finances I think we have to be realistic and if we get a good offer for any of our players we have to sell, it's the only reasonable way to get out of this mess in the short term while the long term will be a reduction in the level of wages offered, even if that mean we lose players for nothing. Then of course we need to reduce the squad size but many have already mentioned that.

Who do we get rid of?

Current First Team:

Goalkeepers
Rafael - Keep, 1st choice
Sam Walker - Try to move on, let go at end of contract next season otherwise, several young keepers coming through that can be backup

Defenders:
Chris Gunter - Out of contract, high wages, release
Michael Morrison - Keep
Matt Miazga - on loan, realistically unaffordable, back to Chelsea
Liam Moore - Keep unless we get a good offer
Jordan Obita - Out of contract but with all injury troubles probably won't command a large wage, keep if feasible
Tom McIntyre - Promising youngster, probably more first team opportunities with a slimmer squad, keep
Andy Yiadom - Could attract attention but keep unless a good offer comes in
Tyler Blackett - Out of contract and looks like he's leaving
Omar Richards - Probably first choice now, so keep

Midfielders:
Andy Rinomhota - Still young and on form is one of our best midfielders, keep
John Swift - When he plays well, the team does but could attract attention so sell if a good offer comes in.
Garath McCleary - Out of contract, best days behind him and probably a high wage, release
Ovie Ejaria - Sounds like we agreed a fee in the Summer and he probably will be worth more than the £3m rumoured.
Felipe Araruna - Not really had a chance to show what he can do, probably best to send him back.
Pele - He's come on a lot this season but I don't think he's affordable so send back.
Michael Olise - Probably the most exciting prospect at the club right now, need to keep
Charlie Adam - Out of contract but if wages aren't an issue could be worth keeping for another season
Ayub Masika - Shown promise but probably best to let him go back
Sone Aluko - Unfortunately still here for another year, try to move on or do a dodgy loan to the owner's club again.

Strikers:
Sam Baldock - I like him, still has another year and I don't know how much interest he would get so keep
Danny Loader - Looks like he's leaving in the Summer
Lucas Boye - Hasn't really happened for him, send back to Torino
Yakou Meite - Fans love him, he seems to love it here, bit of a no brainer.
George Puscas - Difficult one, we could try and recoup some of the money we paid for him but would certainly be at a loss but if he can become the player he has shown in glimpses, he would be much better keeping, I'd take the chance and keep him.
Lucas Joao - Some of our best stuff came with him up top, have to keep.

Interestingly looking at the first team squad is quite a lot of them have contracts expiring in 2021 so we might be able to address a lot of the wage issues by then, if the club is sensible of course.
