BR0B0T You can get extremely lucky with Cups and make it to the final whilst not being particularly good (Wimbledon, Milwall etc)

While I agree with your point overall, I can never get why people maintain Wimbledon's win in '88 is one of the biggest cup upsets ever. They finished 7th in the first division that year, and had an established reputation as being a team that made life difficult for the top sides.

Offer a Champions League place to the winners.

Yup. all domestic cups in Europe (excluding League Cups obviously) in all countries carry a CL spot. After all in a knockout competition you are effectively champions having been the last man standing in knockout competition.
I've never understood how 4th place carries such a reward when the the team has finished 20+ points off the champions sometimes. You can bet your life teams will take it seriously.

The prem's 4th place team > the majority of other countries champions

Explain Spurs in it CL final last year the. Because they were awful?
Liverpool were no oil painting either....
If your lucky in the FA Cup......no reason why you can't have a crack at the CL.

Not true, unsurprisingly.

FA Cup (England) - winners go to Europa League
DFB-Pokal - Europa League
Coupe de France - Europa League
Copa del Rey - Europa League
Coppa Italia - Europa League
Taca de Portugal - Europa League
KNVB Cup - Europa League

I'm getting bored now - can you point me at anywhere that grants a CL place to its cup winners?

And LOL @ comparing Spurs to Millwall.

English football has been built on sand (am I using that correctly?) for ages. Why not use this as a moment to restructure things and make them better for the future rather than try and get things right back to where they were?

Unfortunately I don't think that there is a balance to be found. The choice is either a domestic league where the best can compete with the best in Europe, or a more equitable domestic setup, at the cost of that competitiveness at European level.

The reality is that our football league is too big. We can't (and aren't) sustaining 100 professional teams (if you include the few in the NL) even in 'normal times', nevermind now. Football should be regionalised below League One.

should have said, I was actually talking about the lower 2 divisions. Regionalised football is the kind of thing I was thinking of. Even making Div 4 amateur maybe. Would be crazy for the authorities to spend their time and energy trying to find a way of getting football back to the unsustainable place it was in before.

Feels a bit soon given the numbers in the UK but need to fix a date. Also guess they don't want to be left behind with most other major leagues playing, or about too.

Police request that five games be played at neutral venues owing to fears of crowds gathering.

Man City v Liverpool
Man City v Newcastle
Man Utd v Sheff Utd
Newcastle v Liverpool
Liverpool v Everton

plus any game at which Liverpool can mathematically win the league.

Not sure of the significance of games vs. Newcastle or Sheff Utd in terms of public health, as oppose to other opponents.

Rumour currently is that the Championship will resume on Saturday 20th June.

It’ll get interesting on 1st July when suddenly some players are no longer under contract though I suspect the authorities/players themselves may either allow contracts to be extended to the end of the season or just re-signed on a one month contract.

Would also presume the PL and FL will want clubs go play twice a week so as to have a shot at starting season 20/21 comfortably by mid September. Also wondering if any games that become obviously “dead rubbers” in the final 2/3 weeks might not be played at all.

Doubt that they won’t play dead rubbers in PL as there is a financial incentive to finish as high in the table as possible. In FL if clubs are in no danger of going up or down fully expect team selections to be made on picking players who don’t incur large appearance bonuses.
