BFI Follow Blackburn

by Westwood52 » 18 Jul 2020 17:14

Sorry that was a shambles. How we got to three all someone upstairs must know.Once again no structure and little by way of team spirit.
IMHO

Rafael 6 Terrible kicking. But realistically had no chance with any of the goals.
Gunter 6 Solid enough. One very good pass, playing in Rino.
Blackett 5 The worst of Blackett, apart from a couple of meaty tackles.
Morrison 4 Apart from one very good clearance, completely out of his depth.
McIntire 5 Got shown up against a very clever attacking team.
Richards 4 Played out of position and never in the game.
Rino 4 Looked very limited today.
Swift 5 Brilliant free kick, but so often went for the difficult pass, but then would screw up an easy pass.
Olise 6 Good and bad in equality measure.
Puskas Never got a decent pass ,never in the game.Cant rate him really.
Meite 5 Usual blunderbuss.Yes it was a pen on him late on.

Obita Pity really after that cross to Baldock, but eventually gave them the game by being far to weak on the back post.
Baldock Apart from that overhead kick, his best game.Nice goal.
Moore Looked like someone on his way.
Osho Bit of a mixed bag.
Macca That zip has gone. Also looked like someone on his way.

Ref.Apart from the pen on Meite had a pretty reasonable game.

Was nice to get the goals, and see Meite reach 17 for the season
but in midfield and defence for 70/90 minutes we were relegation fodder.

We could have shipped 6 or more.

The "fight-back" can colour things but that was a worrying performance

Cabral - 5 thought he could have done better on more than one goal, though no clear errors for sure and not should have saved exactly.
Gunter - 6 typically Gunter
Morrison - 6 less good than normal
McIntyre - 6 struggled a bit during the period of no protection then went off injured
Blackett - 5 all over the shop
Rinomhota - 6 not at his usual level, but pretty much running midfield alone at times
Swift - 5 good goal but back to last season's liability in defence and consistently poor passing as normal since the restart
Olise - 6 bit soft but grew into the game at the end as the rest of the team improved
Richards - 5 rather headless chicken
Puscas - 4 get involved
Meite - 4/6 looked lost alongside Puscas, far better when Baldock came on

McCleary - 6 didn't quite happen, but more direct and helped change the game
Baldock - 7 upped the tempo, scored and created. Went quiet later on but we'd lost the flow at that point
Obita - 5 given time and space a beautiful cross, but beaten on the back post for the winner. Possibly harsh here.

Moore - 6 ish, he's just not a midfielder but didn't get much wrong, did fine in defence
Osho - 6 did ok

All in all an entertaining goal fest that could so easily have been a rout or a win. Good character on display, shame about some of the quality.

Poor defending from Obita for the winner, just not strong enough.

Rino 4? Thought he was one of the better players which says a lot for the others!

I think that performance summed up where we are as a club at the moment. Soft and easy to play against, especially at the Mad Stad. Fair play that we got it back to 3-3 but Blackburn aren't a solid side defensively and haven't kept many clean sheets this season, scoring 3 goals there isn't a huge deal. We haven't let in 4 in a game for a while so I can let that go.

I'm done with Obita though. Hope he doesn't get a new contract. That 4th goal was dire and bar a cross today he's really not done much or shown the quality required for this league since his injury. Time to say thank you and goodbye.

Based on the post Covid performances we seriously need to wheel and deal smartly this summer. Every signing we make has to have a positive impact or we'll be in another relegation scrap next season. No surprise at the defeat and performance! Disappointing to gift Blackburn 4 goals.

Looking forward to a clear out of the shit overpaid players in this team and starting afresh with some hungry and ambitious players.

Baldock's interview on BBCRB was an eye-opener - especially about "Mr Nice Guy" Gomes...

In summary:

Had no idea why he (and the others were frozen out of the team)
Gomes said how good he was on leaving, although having frozen him out for months
Hopes to be here next season
Club has a lot of issues. Seems to be very "different" behind the scenes compared to other clubs.
Manager is not under pressure to pick team

Message to Gerald who rang BBCRB.
You have to be pi55ed or an Oxford fan.......
To say we should try and hang onto this squad and manager and be pleased with the performance today shows you need help. Dumbell.

What? 5 because he shouldn't have saved any of the goals but could have done better? A nicer dive or something?

This will relate to our 'super agent' and terms of contracts. The signing of Araruna is an example but most relevant to Baldock and his comments is the constant selection of the other (frequently disappointing) striker ahead of him. The one I don't expect to be at the club next season.

Team with nothing to play for playing like they’ve got nothing to play for shock.

Disappointing but it is what it is.

Just a footnote......Sam Gallagher again worked his nuts off for Blackburn and made a nuisance of himself, just as he did when he was motm for me after our home meeting. He is 23 and that was his 41st game today.
Compare that to our big signing star player Lucas João who looks to be absolutely critical to us and the way we play and still it looks like he won't be fit for some time and clearly wasn't fit when we signed him and I doubt we will see him again for the start of next season. That hamstring "twinge" we were told about clearly was a load of crap.
I then see his record of injuries at Wednesday......the guy will never complete a season....he will never be fit.....
Just saying, but we desperately need a target man......give me a Sam Gallagher over a Lucas João anyday. That's all.

No individual glaring mistake, but soft on multiple goals to the point you'd expect one to have been saved, if not a specific one.

Think it shows that Baldock and Meite could make a half decent partnership. Puscas isn’t a lone striker, but equally he demonstrated today that he can’t play as a second striker in English football. Just had zero work rate to drop back and help out the midfield. That meant Swift or Rinomhota had to step forward, leaving acres of space in between them and the defence. If playing that system as well you need full backs who don’t constantly back off. Instead you need them to step forward and put prsssure on runners or the man in possession. Gunter did none of that today (as per usual). We’d have been better with the inexperienced but enthusiastic Osho in there again today.

And what happened to Blackett today. Worst game since he came back into the side and just looked like he didn’t know whether he should be playing left back or left sided centre back; suspect having Richards in front of him running around like a headless chicken didn’t help either.
