UpNorth Oh dear! Always a worry when the manager resorts to a double negative.

Quote from JLow's press conference:

"We’re not going to say we’re not looking for depth, we’re very happy with the guys we have.

If there are chances to improve our depth we’ll take a decision.

We have to focus on the next game and nothing else."

No more signings then????

Sounds like it. Same old ROFLeading.

I mean, it doesn't though, does it?

What it means is that they are happy with the squad as it is, but if the right player is available they will see what they can do. To me, it says they aren't going to be panicking with the window coming to a close and making rash decisions, which have caused us issues in the past.

Blame the EFL and financial mismanagement if we make no more signings. We're short at full back, DM and AM. Don't think anyone in the academy is ready to step in to those 3 positions!

Not even remotely short at AM imo, it's one of the positions I'd be least concerned about alongside CB and GK.

VP suggested maybe yiadom and swift aren’t quite as bad as we’ve suggested

Tbh I don’t think we’re lacking a lot. Wouldn’t be too upset if we didn’t sign anyone else. A winger would be nice. Otherwise some of the most successful teams have relied on a core of players

Yep and it may force us down the route of using Academy boys like Holmes who might just prove themselves to be good enough. These injuries may mean the likes of Holmes and McIntyre don’t end up going out on loan. No bad thing.

I know we have the Baker Street duo;but I am surprised we have not brought a RB in on a short term contract or loan.

With the exception of centre back and maybe up front, this is a smaller squad than fifteen years ago.

This squad would look much more balanced if we could add equivalents to Hunt, Brynjar, and Makin.

Have we ever had an attack as strong as that Kitson/Doyle/Lita/Long squad?

Nah, that was epic

Arguably two of our best ever strikers in the same XI.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find a much better 4 than that.

Quality and variation, two key elements.

Only if Semedo signs this PM

Failing that perhaps the presence of Gibson may offer something different to the manager. Either way at least he’s had a whole week to work on something with the players.

But then perhaps Watson might get a shot at it, grab the opportunity and not look back?

Fair point on Araruna being roughly equivalent to Makin. We eventually added Halls and Golbourne but we went most of the season with only five defenders. Definitely better off now.

Up front we had ~4 players competing for two spots (Kitson, Doyle, Lita, and the combination of Obinna/Long/Cox). Now we have five players including Smith competing for one spot. So much more depth, even if Baldock is a long way off Lita.

I guess if then we had seven credible midfielders for four spots, and we now use five midfielders, we probably need eight or nine midfielders to have the same depth. We’ve only really got six.

No Watson for the U23’s today - a starter for tomorrow?

I think Paunovic may well be giving Tennai his shot at the big time.

Any chance of the match being called off for a waterlogged pitch?

Yup, we really were. In addition we had goals all over the team to add to that strike force

Pitch is OK but safety of spectators may be an issue
