John Madejski's Wallet Are Finland likely to be one of the 4 runner ups?

Tough for them now, 2nd goal likely kills them.

To qualify they need: Scotland & Croatia to draw as well as Poland not winning, whilst Slovakia lose by at least 2 to Spain or Slovakia win.

Then they'll still likely need France to beat Portugal by 3 goals.

Let's face it though, as admirable as the Finnish performance has been, they'd only be going through because Denmark fell apart when Eriksen nearly died and they won a game they otherwise never would have.

Great goal from the CB though, hit it like a rocket

Really nice togetherness from Denmark

Could they go ALL THE WAY

I think they are the dark horses

A very under-rated side. If they beat us they have to go to Baku for the quarter final which won’t help them. They will give any side in this tournament a good game.

On current showing, they have looked very well

Might put a cheeky 5 on them to win the whole thing.... 23/1 cannot say no to that

59 shots for them in 3 games - you won’t see too many teams creating more chances than that - which is especially admirable given what’s happened

Absolutely not. Same with Reading really. if we had those 7 wins at the start of the season sprinkled out throughout the rest of the season and we then ended up finishing 7th anyway, there really wouldn't have been much grumbling.

You sure about that?

100%, if we had been 5th-8th for the majority of the season then finishing 7th people would've grumbled for sure. But some of the "fans" wouldn't have had the early season expectations and thus not been super annoyed that we couldn't get over the line.

Yeah - I got what you were saying, nature of the point was that some football fans are never happy

I think what's happened plays into that stat - it looks like they have decided to just have fun and not take it to seriously and get as far as possible for their buddy. Makes them a very dangerous side.

If 2 teams are tied in the groups on the same points, GD & GS then it goes to best disciplinary record in the 3 group games, and if that is also tied then the team who are ranked higher by UEFA go through

That’s very impressive but unsurprising. They did the double over us in the Nations League a couple of years ago. I was at the game in Cardiff and was impressive by them. A streetwise side with more ability than they are given credit for.

You need a maths degree to figure out who goes through imo. What's fairly sure is that the Dutch will meet one of the group F teams. Currently thinking it'll be Portugal and the record is not good against them.

Now confirmed Denmark fans can travel to Amsterdam whilst Welsh fans are banned from doing so.

Well the Danish government have said they can but nothing official from the Dutch.

And it is under quite strict timelimits as well. The Danish have said, to avoid quarantine they would need to only be in the Netherlands for 12 hours. Given the last flights back to Denmark leave Schipol an hour after the game ends (assuming no ET or Pens) that leaves very few options.

Only realistic way to do it is drive or train to the German/Dutch border, stay in a hotel in Germany cross the border at say 1pm to get to Amsterdam for 3pm - game finishes at 9pm then train/drive/cab back to Germany stay overnight again before driving home. Can't see that happening in massive numbers.

Last night some commentator was going on about the result between the two teams being a factor, so if we finished level with Croatia a team some point the fact that we beat them outs us ahead. Not sure if that is true, or whether iteven makes much difference !
Tonight I assume we would prefer a draw to finish 2nd while Czechs would possibly prefer a defeat to avoid finishing top and playing Germany. Could lead to the classic situation of each team scoring lots of own goals !

Have actually been impressed by the Italians most so far. Certainly been more entertaining than the tedious and unimpressive way England go about things. Still reckon the French will win it though.

On the subject of own goals we must be close to a Euro finals record.

Five isn’t it so far
Turkey : Demiral
Germany : Hummels
Portugal : Dias
Portugal : Guerreiro
Finland : Hradecky

Or have I missed one ?

[edit] Already a Euros record but some way short of the WC 2018 of 12

Head to head is the first tie break if teams are level on points. It's why the Dutch had already won their group before yesterday's games as they had beaten the only 2 teams who could equal their points tally.

So tonight:

England W: Win group, Czech's 2nd with a Scottish win, 3rd with a Croatia win and a 4 goal swing
Draw: Czech's win group, England second
Czech W: Czech's win group, England 2nd with a Croatia win or 3rd with a Scottish win and a 4 goal swing.

So draw or lose will likely see England 2nd and a trip to Copenhagen but not sure that will be easier as I think that may well mean playing Spain.

Love the story about Hummels' young son - he doesn't understand own goals (as he is about 2) but knows that putting the ball in the goal is normally a good thing. So when Hummels scored his OG v France, his son apparently started cheering excited that his Dad had scored.
