Scutterbucketz So how much do people think this stadium renaming is worth per year?

Not very much at all, is my guess.

£250,000 a year. WIth add ons if we get promoted.

For context, Vodafone (one of the biggest UK companies) was going to sponsor the olympic stadium for £20m / 6 years.

And that was an olympic stadium with a PL team, hosting international sporting competitions, and big gigs, in London, in an olympic park, which is a destination in itself.

Derby's a few years ago worked out to £700,000 a season across 10 years - https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2013/11/der ... ights-deal

Reading have always undersold their worth in advertising, so I'd be surprised if we're getting £400,000 p/a, and I'd bet that was shirt sponsorship all rolled into one.

Fcuking gimps on social media pissing themselves over a fcuking name when it could secure the financial survival of the club.

lol, ok.

(believe it or not, we used to have a Stade de Windermere back in the seventies....basically the road before it was populated by cars and/or the grassland behind the flats before it was built on...many a decent game v Stavvie and Barnsdale)

LOL. We're losing £40m a year. A couple of hundred grand max isn't going to save shit.

It seems an odd straw the break the camel's back IMHO.

The relentless commercialism continues apace but why should stadia be sacred?

What makes you think a few hundred grand a year is going to make the difference when they’re haemorrhaging millions?

AthleticoSpizz Coley Park I believe (or at least they definately played there sometime around then)

Self correction, moved on from CP to Caversham Cricket ground in 1889..then to EP

I for one was livid when we moved from Caversham CG to EP. It just wasn't the same

Caversham was in Oxfordshire back then. Perhaps an early example of football coming home

Lol yeah

Some might say that Caversham should bugger off back to Oxfordshire....they might then buy into that third Thames Bridge that is so sorely needed

Other than the team, there's little more tied to a club's identity than their stadium. Sponsorship is sort of grudgingly accepted, but a poor name really does sound naff and desparate. If the sponsor name is a single word it doesn't sound too bad, but more than that often sounds clunky.

You do have to wonder why some companies bother though, as most people will continue to refer to grounds by their original name.

Overall though, this is probably just replacing the money lost due to London Irish leaving.

.

Its the continued name dropping on highlight shows, computer games and on live reporting and post match reports. As well as the font 10,000 branding on 4 sides of a building for the next 10 years.
£100-200k a year is probably cheaper than conventional advertising.

We aren't changing the stadium though. When we did change the stadium we gave it a name that recognised someone who had put quite a lot of money into the club. The new name does the same. It will be interesting to see whether they have put the full 10 year sponsorship up front. Would make a lot of sense if they did - £7-8 million straight into the accounts now plus the Olise money is significant....

It doesn't work like that though, the income would be spread accross the period to which it relates, therefore only 10% of the received revenue will hit our books in the next year, even if we have recieved all the cash up front.

As actual money, I think it's trivial in the grand scheme of things - It's unlikely to pay the wages of a single senior player.
Same goes for all the other partnerships and sponsorships that have been happening recently.

I think it's more likely it's "showing willing" to the EFL - look we're cutting our costs AND increasing our income streams - so we get a bit more leeway in terms of the transfer embargo.

I wonder if there is a clause in the contract which gives RFC a % (even if it is like 1%) of all sales following the sponsorship. Would be a bit more on top of the initial cash injection.

You are very definitely not an accountant!

They will be looking to save and make every single pound that they can.

If people are that worried about the name maybe they should've got together (with or without SJM) and paid the going rate to keep it on the stadium.
