At £⅐m, there's better value out there.

LOL. We might sell someone yet! anyway £1m for a player is hardly breaking the bank even in L1.

It is if it's 10-12% of the total budget you hoped to set for the whole year.

Last season in League 1, 6 clubs exceeded £1m in player purchases.

Wycombe spent £1.5m

Peterborough spent £3m but recouped £7m

Charlton spent £1.2m but recouped £900k

Huddersfield spent £5m but recouped £6m.

The other 2 were Wrexham and Birmingham.

The league as a whole had a nett spend of £16m. Birmingham accounted for £30m of that.

Make of that what you will but I don't think spending £500k on a striker who realistically hasn't played above this level is particularly wise.

I’d be amazed if we spent more than 100k on anyone

I don't think we'll pay any fees.

In the last 10 years in L1, there have been 22 signings of €1m+

7 of those were Birmingham in one season (with two more just below!). Excluding those financial dopers buying success, that's one and a half €1m signings a season, across 8 different teams. But another 4 came in the same season from other clubs. So it's then 11 in 9 seasons, with last season being a total anomaly.

Transfermarkt was only showing euros for some reason.

He cost more than Jamie Cureton, Dave Kitson, Kevin Doyle and Shane Long put together.

I'm talking about now. That's not the sort of sums we should be spending on a player at this present time unless it's an absolute no brainer.

Believe this one is still rumbling on, might things come to a head once Reading get £2m for Knibbs?

I do hope we sign this guy up, he seems really exciting and could turn out to be a bit of a hidden gem.

I'd take the £1m quote with a pinch of salt. Didn't SJM once say Long was worth £20m after we lost at Wembley?

Players relegated out of the SPL are not worth £1m.

This is resurfacing. Doesn't exactly fit the type of striker we need, but if it's as well as Cole could be decent.

What kind of striker do we need?

In my opinion we need one who knows where the net is, like Le Fondre. Wifi and O'Mahony are link up players.

A physical presence who can hold the ball up and cause some problems for defenders. No point having a Le Fondre if we're not getting anywhere near the goal.
