If this is true we may not have to wait until the end of January - we could quite possibly have him at the start of the window (i.e. 3 league matches and 1 or 2 cup matches) if he joins before the 5th Jan.

Taylor in, Shorey out then I would guess. Going by stories in the press this week at least.

Not the Reading way to do business.

I am very hopeful about this. Steve Coppell must know this is exactly the kind of signing we need, and Mr Mad has given the go ahead to spend in January.
Harper and Taylor in centre mid, combined with a new right winger could just change the course of our season.
Please let it happen.

i'd play him CM as well, suit shim well, good tackler, good passer, eye for goal, lots of enthusiasm etc etc

I predict Taylor will join either Wigan or Fulham, if he leaves at all.

He could probably do a reasonable job there yes, but personally I'd hope we sign a central midfielder to play there at some point.
Taylor will (fingers crossed) be a good additional to the squad though, it's just a shame we didn't manage to get Gary O'Neil off of Pompey earlier in the year too.

O'Neil you mean

By all accounts he is homesick

, but Boro would look to recap all the fee they've paid for him.
And please, if we get Taylor then play him in his rightful position, not central midfield.

from what i hear the Pompey v Reading reserve game did actually happen last night but was behind closed doors as it featured Taylor playing for Pompey but for the beneift of us, can anyone confirm this did take place as the club said it was cancelled?

With Rosenior signed to play right wing, Matt Taylor to play centre mid sounds about right.
My only worry about Taylor, is he a left back or a winger? Always looks best play wing back, which obviously he won't do for us. He's not as good a left back as Shorey for sure.
Would much rather we just kept Shorey.
Pompey game was called off.

According to today's EP Coppell is now expecting Shorey to stay in January.
Since Pompey went back to 4-4-2 they've basically had fullbacks who also play centre half, as opposed to ours who also play on the wing. The way we've always played under Coppell our full backs have been quite attacking so maybe he see's that as a perfect fit with Taylor.

Shorey and Taylor on the left hand side could be an excellent combination, two of the better crossers in the division from that side. Just the right hand side and centre of the park to sort out!

Can you really see Hunty being dropped??
Bobby can't even get a chance left wing!!
