You've gotta be kidding?! Watford paid £3.25mill for Ellington, Derby paid £3.5mill for Earnshaw. Anything below £5mill for Doyle, Kits or Lita would be bad business imo.
Value of player is determined to the amount people are willing to pay. Feel free to prove me wrong when Doyle goes for 7.5m.
Totally agree with you, that's why with todays crazy transfer fees £2million would be absolutely ridiculous for Kevin Doyle, when you've got teams like West Ham who are always willing to pay stupid money.

West Ham said a while ago that becasue their owners have been hit hard by the downturn in the Icelandic economy that they are restricted in their transfer dealings...
I'd be surprised if they forked out £7.5 million for Doyle, although they do look a bit light up front if Zamora is going and Bellamy has his usual injury hit season.
I'm just surprised the rumour hasn't got the traditional add on of Haydn Mullins coming the other way....

Doyle is under contract and I cannot see us accepting less than £7M for either him or Kitson as we would have to pay that amount for an equivalent replacement (even if we could find one - which I doubt). Don't forget Darren Bent is valued at £9M and scored no more than Doyle last season and less than Kitson. Strikers of the calibre of Doyle and Kitson are highly valued.
If we took any less than £7M for either Kits or Doyle I would be extremely disappointed. I would rather we simply kept them.

We don't know what release clauses they may have in their contracts of course....

Fair point - but I would hope the club have had enough forsight to put in a minimum acceptable fee of say £7M - before we would release player.

Horses for courses....Chopra for £5m, Jones for £6m, Defoe for £7m, King for £5m, Bent for £16m, Ashton for £7m, Bellamy for £7.5m, Mido for £6m, Kamara for £6m.
Not a lot of them are better than Doyle or Kitson and anything less that £5m would be a bit of a steal in my opinion.
£7m plus and I think we've done well for ourselves for either player.

If he wouldn't 'step down' when we were in the Prem he won't do it now. I spoke to him about it recently and he just laughed. He's a regular in a solid Prem team. No reason for him to come to us.

Since when did there need to be any logic to a rumour, Mullins always gets tied in as a makeweight !
He might be a decent signing for us but as you say he was getting games for them last season so would need to be told be was surplus to requirements.

i think they key thing here is that as the selling club we should be starting at unreasonable and working down from there
its the buying club that should worry about whats reasonable, not us

Out of interest how did you arrive at that figure ? My copy of Glass's Guide to Second Hand Footballers gives a guide price of £5-7 million for early 1980 reg centre forwards, although as there is a bit of bodywork damage we may have to let him go for the 'good' condition price rather than 'excellent'.

No chance of West Ham paying as little as that, then.

What does it say about world class Portuguese midfielders then, or was Deco a lucky snip at that price!

old, coming to end of contract/career
he wanted out, club no longer wanted him
most of which doesnt apply to doyle
