There is no way Portsmouth would swap this Craine fella for Shorey - they rate him too highly to let go.

If they rated him that highly wouldn't they have used him a bit more last season? And why would they need Shorey in the first place if he's that good?
I know he's only young, but Harry's hardly used him at all at Pompey.

Depends how bad he wants Shorey. Shorey is a 2 cap England international, Cranie isn't. I think if I was Cranie and Shorey joined, I'd feel a little bit like I wasn't going to get a sniff of first team football and maybe I should look elsewhere.
I still think it'll be Hreidsson (sp?)

Better choice than Villa. Maybe slightly less pressure and better stadium, better fans and no doubt a nice big wallet.
Good luck and c'ya!

Better choice than Villa?
Villa - One sensible owner, UEFA Cup football this season and no doubt competing for a UEFA spot again this year. Squad includes young starlets to take the club forward.
Sunderland - A consortium owns the club. This consortium seems to throw money left, right and centre, often paying over the odds for some complete rubbish. You get the impression that one day they'll see the error of their ways, up sticks and run. And even with investment they'll still finish bottom half.
This decision would say to me it's all about the £, especially if Pompey, another UEFA Cup side have a bid accepted.

You seem to forget though that a player doesn't give a toss about a consortium or what not. They want lots of money and if/when the club goes belly up, they join another club, get another big signing on fee and inflated wage.

No, that's fair enough. But players (on the whole anyway) are ambitious and want to play for the best clubs. Sunderland are not a good club to join, whereas Villa and Pompey both are...

It seems Hunt or Kelly will play at left back according to S.C.That will go down well with Hunty.

thats not what he says at all
and even if it was-surely thats just him sending a message to those clubs with potential shorey replacements that we arent totally desperate.

on the assumption that a replacement can not be found kelly or hunt will play at left back.

I'd take that.
He's a dick head, but a decent enough player.

Thatcher couldn't get in the Charlton side last season.
Way past his best, no pace, can't pass.
We shouldn't have limited our options by waiting for Shorey to leave.
We knew he was going, we knew even if he stayed he'd be as bad as last year.
Just another thing that doesn't really make sense.
Shorey was never gonna stay and give 100%.

My Liverpool mates really rate their young Argentinian left back Emiliano Insua. Only played five times for the first team but has been impressive.
Likely to go out on loan for a year he would be an exciting addition to our ranks.
