Now the story is -

Peterborough United currently lead the race to sign Reading FC transfer target Kyreece Lisbie.

Whilst I am always fairly meh about whether we get any particular individual, we do seem to rate Lisbie and with the apparent slow uptake on ST sales and the apathy toward the current management team, you have to think that losing out on Lisbie to a club currently slightly lower in the pecking order, would only make the fanbase even more apathetic.

If that bit is true then Reading will get him if they’re still interested - which you’d presume they would be (but then this is football so who really knows).

On top of a near-universally disliked manager being kept on, nickel and diming our way through the summer and letting transfer targets who actually want to sign go elsewhere isn't going to do much to calm down an already irritable fanbase.

Bit of a Catch 22 - you need the season ticket money to buy players but need to buy players to get people to buy season tickets

'Nickled and diming' ... are you saying we should be spending our way out of this league? I mean seriously? Next you'll be chastising the owner for having spent money on players in an unsustainable way.

Is there something in it that he may not actually be worth £750k? His form after January was pretty poor, he has 12 months left on his contract and he's never played above L2. Even if he proved to be a good signing, we're not talking about proven L1 talent who would immediately improve our 1st team. We're talking about a raw prospect who would need time to develop. I know we love to give the club a good kicking, but perhaps there are better value options out there.

Chronicle Ramy says oxf*rd are now interested and are the frontrunners, so looks like this one isn't a goer now.

At the end of the day Reading are a comfortably mid table League 1 club going nowhere for the foreseeable future. Signing young players with potential like Lisbie is a nice ambition, but there are just clubs at a more advanced stage than us out there who can outbid us. We should, and probably will, concentrate on signing old heads like Will Keane. Then hopefully trying to develop potential ourselves through the academy. Although it remains to be seen how long that can keep producing at the cost of category 1 given how long we are going to be in this division.

Idiots on Twitter melting down about lack of ambition, we've shown there's money there for the right player, this was shown with the Benn Ward signing. Kyreece Lisbie fell off massively, signing would have made sense in January when he was in hot form but now we'd just be hoping he can recapture that form at a higher level.

It still seems like a gamble potentially worth taking but I don't think it's unreasonable for the club to look at alternate options.

I don't think we will sign Keane himself, but that's the sort of profile of player a midtable league 1 club like us will have to be targeting. Experienced with not a lot of competition from other clubs for signing.

Like it or not anyone 25 and under is more likely to sign with a club just down from the Championship, or competing at the top of this league for the last few years, than with a club like Reading.

Unfortunately there are more attractive propositions for players like Lisbie than Reading. Sadly that includes old three stands oxf*rd.

A player who either went to shit in the second half of the season, or has a shit attitude and downed tools when he didn't get his big move.

We wouldn't win a bidding war for Lisbie, so that is sensible not to get involved in one. As I said, clubs like oxf*rd, having just come down from the Championship, are (sadly) more attractive propositions than us, so once they are getting involved it is more likely/means we are out of the running.

The competition for Ward was Wigan, who have been in an even worse position than us, if a team higher up than us like Cardiff or Bolton had wanted him then he wouldn't be here. As for Roberts, I don't remember there being a lot of competition for that one, but maybe you remember better.

We've seen the good times of Reading FC, there was a chance to kick on as Brentford and Brighton have done but we didn't take it, and now we are back to our level.

Colchester fans seem quite keen to see him gone, citing his attitude.
