RUMOUR - Harper to Middlesborough

Yet another of our long standing stars is attracting interest from a Premiership club. Southgate wants Harper and Sidwell apparently.

Harper has been at the heart of the team for so long but a decent offer would surely see him leave. If offered Premiership football I doubt that Coppell would stand in his way assuming we got £2m - £3m for him (is he worth more?).

Time to rebuild around matey boy and an opportunity to bring in a ''box to box' type midfielder like Sidwell.

He is worth more than that to us. We already need to bring in at least one central midfielder if not two. Let Harps go and it goes up to 2 or 3.

He is still in contract to the best of my knowledge and is one of the few players to aquit himself well over the majority of both seasons. He is still relatively young, we should be looking for £3m+ maybe 4 or 5 given his importance to us IMO.

Was on Teamtalk , then copied in a few other placees, google you lazy bugger.

As for him leaving, 6 Prem goals last season in a poor team, thats not bad for a midfielder, anything less tha £4m and we should say no.

I had a dream that we beat Crystal Palace 2-0 on the first day of the season, and Alan Partridge, whom I've never met in my life, punched me for arguing that Harper was a classy midfielder.

We don't need to sell, so we won't unless a big offer comes in. There is no way Harper is leaving for £2-3m, no matter how much some of you may will it. He might not be worth more than that in objective terms, but he is not a player we can afford to lose without a ready-made replacement lined up, and as such is worth a lot more to us than a couple of million.

Harper to Stoke is a rumour I've heard mentioned from 2 seperate sources, both who are well connected to the club.

Glad to see our players are attracting interest. I all truth I'd bite Boro or Stoke's hand off if they wanted to pay £3 million for Harps. Perhaps we could then get a midfielder who will tackle!

I'm not surprised Harper is attracting some early interest from Premiership teams.

He's one player in our squad who performed consistently during both seasons. Some might argue he was consistently poor but he did the job he was asked to and thats what a lot of managers will be impressed by.

£3m is probably about a fair price, but if he wanted to stay and put last seasons wrongs right then I think I'd turn it down and try and keep him. Losing him wouldn't be too bad if Matejovsky stays and delivers next season (alongside a more physical presence in the middle) but long term the pair of them don't strike me as a solution to finding a solid midfield partnership.

The Reading way...

sell a starting 11 player for a couple million
state in press you can't find replacement
buy an african for a few grand who fails
give a youth kid a professional contract so squad looks deeper
Madejski loving it

I'd make sure to hold onto these players as they might have their faults, they will never be replaced with someone better.

I thought I read somewhere that Harps had a relegation clause allowing him to leave for a Prem club

They will still have to pay for him though. If he does have some sort of clause in his contract allowing him to speak to Prem clubs then there will be a fee that they have to offer to tirgger it....unless we just want to give away our players that is!

Probably one of the best things that could happen, Harper going - he was an ever present in midfield last season - a midfield that rolled over and died too many times - hopefully Bikey or another "strong" presence in midfield complemented by Marek, will do the trick.

And who do we play if Marek &/or Bikey get injured?

We need 4 central midfielders who are good enough. Not 1.5
