Naby Sarr Moves To Qatar Side

13 June 2023
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Reading's very small first team squad has just become smaller with the confirmation that central defender Naby Sarr will be joining Al-Markhiya in Qatar for the new season. Sarr will be making use of a relegation release clause in his contract to leave the club midway through his contract. Sarr had a mixed season with the Royals after arriving last summer on a free transfer from Huddersfield, including a spell out injured, but was still expected to be a key player for the new Campaign in League One.

Highly thought of at Huddersfield. Would be a yes from this poster.

Is Dann fit? With Moore already out we really are in need of another cb if Dann is out too.

well out of all of the other CB's we've been linked to this is by far the most promising, only 28 so should be in his prime. Get it done

He’s a big lump - 6ft 5 I think
I’d be happy with him coming in. Certainly more than Hutchinson or the chap from Swansea
Pretty clear we want another big strong CB in there
Dann is fit afaik. On the training camp and played the friendly

I haven't been that impressed with him this season, although only seen the odd appearance or two from him when Huddersfield were on TV and never thought too much but if he can improve the squad in that position, I'll be happy enough with that.

Surely the priority is to sign more goalkeepers. We have only signed 2 so far. Who needs left backs and CM's?

If he isn’t incredibly slow, good. If he is, no thanks.

CB is pretty much the only position where we look in a decent state. Why are we being linked with so many more?

Moore is injured and Dorsett might be pencilled in for the u23’s for now. So with TMac, Holmes and Dann we could do with one more.

Yep. Plus T Mac is injury prone and Dann is old as fcuk.

If he's got a bit of pace then he offers something our other centre backs don't. Also, from the little I've seen if him, he's a monster at set pieces.
Quick look in the Huddersfield forums suggests he's a no nonsense CB, not great with the ball at his feet but a fantastic attitude and work rate.
I think in our predicament, particulalrly with Moore and Dann gone next season, could be decent signing.

Moore doesn’t count fit or injured.
And our 3 senior CBs are all incredibly slow and were part of a side that leaked goals galore last season.
We need one, but they need to be good and quick.
And we can't rely on Dann or McIntyre playing a whole season.

100 Championship apps and 11 goals.
Only 18 apps, 14 starts, last season though with 3 goals.
Think he is worth a punt and looks like he would be a source of goals from set plays.

Not just attacking set plays, but defensive set plays as well. At least it looks like we are trying to address our problem areas from last season, the defence, goalkeeping and set piece situation, rather than just filling the squad with numbers because we lack them. There does seem to some logical thought process going into this at least.

Probably best if he isn’t a source of goals at defensive set plays.

Yeah it’d be good for him to have some pace and not arguing with you Ian at all, but feel the management are looking for a big aggressive lump to pair with Holmes I imagine
Not sure pace is the first thing they are looking for based on the rumours so far

Be nice to have some options at set pieces though, Swift and Olise are both gone and they were really the only specialists the club have had in the last couple of years. At the moment I’m not sure who the club have that can give a decent threat from free kicks etc.

Probably a coincidence but both Bennett and Sarr have mostly played in a back 3 for the last few years, cant remember any other CBs we've been strongly linked with

  YorkshireRoyal99

» 04 Jul 2022 15:36

It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. Holmes and McIntyre I think are capable of playing either side of another CB, with Yiadom at RWB and a more offensive-minded LWB with potentially Ejaria on that side as well. Based on current rumours/signings, we could have something like:
Lumley

Holmes Sarr/New CB McIntyre

Yiadom Tetek Shackleton New LWB

Meite Joao Ejaria
With the Bouzanis, Dann, Moore (if he's ever involved for the club again), Ince, Azeez, Long, Camara etc involved on the bench.
Definitely something I think can be explored potentially.

I've got a strange feeling that Ince will be a starter.

He probably will be in P.Ince's side, although that's just my team based on a back 3 and rumours/arrivals as it stands.
Tbh, I don't even think it will end up being a back 3 anyway, it would probably require us to sign another couple of CB's at least for that to happen.
