Reading wins: 18 Before this season the last time the Royals got to play Huddersfield was back in the 1997/1998 season before Reading got relegated to Division Two from Division One. Huddersfield managed to keep their place in Division One until last season when they came down to join the Royals. During the 1997/1998, when Reading were a bit crap to say the least, Huddersfield claimed two straight victories off us. We didn't even manage to stick a goal past them over the two fixtures. | Since we played Huddersfield at home there has been a lot of water
under the bridge and Reading have dragged their season from the rocks to
a point where everyone is starting to believe again. Looking back on my
comments after the 1-0 victory at the start of the season, much progress
has been made by our team and I am sure everyone is expecting our run to
continue. Huddersfield come into Saturday's match not having played a league
since December and whilst they have less points than Reading they have only
lost six matches to our seven. Like Reading their home form has not been
brilliant especially at the beginning of the season, however this has improved
and Huddersfield will not feel out of the running yet. They are a sleeping
giant and like Reading their fans will expect first division football again
soon. Every match Reading play now could be built up into a crucial fixture
as we battle for promotion, we must approach the game without complacency
and ensure our performance is professional. In a sense some of these fixtures
away from home will be more open contests as the home sides play for three
points and don't pack eleven men behind the ball. Reading still in my opinion
have yet to get into their stride, another solid performance is required
on Saturday and lets hope the goals start coming, certainly Cureton looks
sharp and perhaps he is due a run, whilst if Rougie continues his form then
he must score soon. Keep it up Tony, you are setting an example to the whole
side and your inspiration is vital. Good luck on Saturday and well done
to Pardew, he has come a long way since the start of the season and weathered
the storms, keep the run going and keep the critics like me quiet. -- Paul Finch |
