Matthew Robinson Tribute Day
11 March 2000
Reading -vs- Brentford, Madejski Stadium

An unnamed Royals fan was heard to comment, when the signing of Matt Robinson was announced, that he was bound to be useless because 'you can't buy a decent player for less than £400,000 these days.'

Wrong or what?

To say Matt has been a success would be hardly starting to tell the story and £150,000 has proved a steal. His rampaging runs down the left have been a feature of the last few games, his crossing is superb and his defending outstanding. In short he's filled the hole on the left side of the defence that has been there since Dylan Kerr went north. He has brought commitment and drive to a team that lacked both those qualities.

And on top of all that Matt has the image!! That shaven head makes him one of the easiest players on the pitch to pick out and after a couple of years of struggling to work out who is in the team it's nice to have a landmark to work round.....

So this weekend we have decided will be Matt Robinson Tribute Day.

How you decide to 'Do a Matty' is up to you:

Use your imagination....... We will be congregating in Scoreboard Corner (head for the bald drummer!) in order to create a wedge of Matt lookalikes - so come and join us as we pay homage. And Matt will have his very own song, to the tune of Mrs Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel the East Stand will be belting out

'So here's to you, Matthew Robinson Reading loves you more than you can know woah, woah, woah'

Who knows, he may decide to mark the occasion with his first goal for us*

March 11th - Matt Robinson Tribute Day, hair optional.
