Re: The inevitable poll for the next Reading manager

Just out of interest what has he done right.? Not trying to be contrary, but in his first 6 months what’s he done right?. And I get all the steadying the ship financially, I’m not interested in all that, that’s a given and something any new owner would have done. I’m on about the day to day operati...

Re: The inevitable poll for the next Reading manager

I mean, it isn’t particularly cultist to believe the owners, privy to 99% more information than the average fan while wanting pretty much the same thing in terms of success, might sign a decent candidate. If that’s Leam Richardson, fine. I get that what the owners want/can spend doesn’t always alig...

Re: The inevitable poll for the next Reading manager

Apparently he likes to employ a high press which, given the glacial pace of our defence, would seem to be a disaster waiting to happen. Favoured set up 4-2-3-1 or 5-3-2. As ever, I'm happy to give every manager a chance but not overly enthused with the prospect of Richardson.. If anyone tries a gen...

Re: Hunts gone

Although Rodgers got ~22 league games, not 14, and had us firmly in the bottom 2 and absolutely clueless, losing a lot. And no history of success with us. And had spent a lot of money. And reportedly just demanded more money to fix things in January when challenged on his performance. And took over...

Re: The inevitable poll for the next Reading manager

This all illustrates the problem of sacking the manager. You've got to find a new one. And in this case, it appears to be without too much planning ahead. So none of the options appear to be all that great. Hard to see how they're much of a step up on Hunt. Realistically, you probably have to look o...

Re: Hunts gone

A little bit surprised. It leaves a slightly unpleasant taste. Couhig's statement is pretty dignified.

The club is always bigger than any one manager, player, or indeed, owner.

I guess two weeks until the next significant fixture means this is a good time to do it.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Doncaster Rovers (h)

I agree with that. So do I Thought Lane was excellent Trying to discredit or dismiss people’s criticism as lacking analysis is arrogant. Tell me where we are improving. Tactically how is Hunt changing the way we play? Which individuals during his tenure has Hunt improved? You calling me arrogant is...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Doncaster Rovers (h)

I didn't think were as awful as many seemed to think. The players are still giving it everything. We are generally creating more. We lacked the natural goal scorer we had in Marriott. I have no problems with Lane. Kyerewaa is 80% of the way towards being a good League 1 / Championship player. Callin...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Northampton Town (h)

Glad we got the win... Wish we'd managed more than a single goal and needs to be built on... Thought the Ref was fine, certainly better than the average L1 refs seen recently.... On a side note, this popped up on BBC Sounds yesterday.... Its a 10 minute monologue from Couhig about the season so far...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Northampton Town (h)

Entertaining game. Deserved win. Hardly faultless, but a massive improvement. And that’s the main thing. Hunt has somehow turned an awful team who turned in abject performances against Exeter and Mansfield into a competitive, high tempo side playing neat triangles and pressing effectively. Savage wa...

Re: Poll: Should Noel Hunt be sacked?

You save your job by improving things. Today was, by all accounts, a good performance marred by poor finishing. So Hunt is maybe starting to turn things around after a string of really poor showings. Win against Northampton and Doncaster and Hunt's job will be safe for now. Which, of course, is what...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (a)

Fortunately the relegation zone only counts for anything after 46 games have been played. So long as at that point we are 20th or above then there's "nothing to worry about". In fact, the team that finished 20th is effectively in the same situation as the team who loses the Play Off Final...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (a)

if the table ' doesn't lie ', then all I need is one, and there's three there. Throw in the season before when at least one of the teams in that position in October was us. I'll have a look at managerial changes in the last few seasons tomorrow. Well exactly. Last season the table lied for 1 in 4 o...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (a)

It's October. Which is the same month Luton, Blackpool and Wycombe have made a change. And they're idiots You're not a natural diplomat, are you? Luton looks a bit of an overreaction, but then I don't know the full story. Blackpool sit 23rd, 2 wins, 2 draws, 8 defeats. Obvious sacking. Wycombe 19th...

Re: Which team have we had the most memorable matches against?

Sheffield United for me. The matches between 2002-2007 were box office stuff. Absolutely this. Gunnarsson's brace against them is in my top three Reading moments. 2005. 22,000 in the Mad Stad. Kenny should have been sent off. 89th minute winning header from one of my top 3 Reading players of all ti...

Re: Poll: Should Noel Hunt be sacked?

Jacobson, Carey and possibly Couhig need to get Hunt into an office for a formal review. Give him the standard performance review questions: We’re not where we expected to be at this time of the season. Can you explain why? What are you going to do to change the situation and get us back on track? H...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (a)

"The table doesn't lie" is a stock phrase used by pundits, managers etc. It doesn't mean things can't change - like Orient managed last season, but that the sample size of games is big enough to give an accurate account of where that teams is now. You might lose your first two games by bei...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cardiff City (a)

At many clubs, lose this one and Hunt goes. The table doesn't lie by October, and we have the resources to be doing much better. Our current owners are probably a bit more forgiving than that. But patience will run out if there's not a significant improvement. And I doubt very much that improvement ...

Re: Hunt out.

This is the time of the season where you keep your job for two reasons: 1 - you are where you should be in the table given your relative budget - in our case, that should be top half, not bottom four. 2 - you are turning around a team but from scratch, and there are clear signs of improvement, even ...
