Re: On this day

And we scored all three goals!! Lucky, lucky Arsenull. Yes I was there in the Town end - great day Think Stuart Morgan headed a superb own goal from a corner for the winner? Was the equaliser Barrie Wagstaff at the Town end ? The other own goal was John Harley Dick Habbin cant remember that - was it...

Re: On this day

11/2/1970, Reading 4 Halifax 1. Part of a 15 game unbeaten run. As I remember, possibly wrongly!, that started with us shipping 6 at Southport on a Saturday, staying up in the NW for a midweek game with Tranmere, and winning that 5-1! I'm probably making this up, but I'm also thinking Tommy Jenkins...

Re: On this day

A phone was a thing with a dial that sat on a table in the hall. No real point in taking it to a game....
Fwiw I was there, right behind Barrie Wagstaff's lob as it dipped under the crossbar....Happy Days!

Re: We will survive this won't we?

Having started with this voluntary and sometimes abusive relationship in 67/68, in then the 3rd tier, I suppose I might feel more sanguine about our current circumstances. But I don't l. It's just so sad. I'll always be a supporter, but right now it feels harder than its ever done. That's all,really...

Royal Rother

Robert Palmer, Frasers Company Secretary

Ah well if he’s involved that would make the deal simply irresistible.

All very confusing, I'm just looking for clues...

Stranded Reports from South Africa say the 18 year old Orlando Pirates midfielder is currently training with us.

No idea why as we can't actually sign anyone but there you go.

That's a relief!

Sutekh Scott Davies (now aged 34) has been confirmed as Slough’s new manager with Lee Togwell his assistant.
great news for Scott, hope he does well, he’s had his (well documented) issues

What were the odds of that happening?

Re: If you could attend 1 game you missed...

Reading 6 Barnsley 2 in 69/70 season. Les Chappell's headed goal and the move preceding it was described as a thing of beauty. Also missed Reading 6 Barrow 3 from that season. I was there for both of those! Chappell's flying header was pretty spectacular - IIRC from about 8 yds out max, but body ho...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Coventry City (a)

I haven't been to a game yet, so admittedly not that well informed, but I can't help thinking that when opposing teams don't have Olise, Ejaria, Meite or Joao to think about they can commit more to attacking our frailties, of which there have been a few for a while! Our apparent poorer defensive pe...

Re: The hardest player to ever play for Reading?

Forbury Lion Andre Bikey - red carded in a trial match and/or friendly for us for headbutting an opposition player, his head wasn't always right.

Bikey wasn't 'hard', just a 'nutter' (ahem)
Always sort of liked him though, and wished he'd been better than he was...

Re: Meite as good as Percy Freeman

Percy, in his other life, actually built part of our house extension, including some garden walling, which he happily stress-tested by belting footballs at it! I believe it's still standing - hopefully he is too!
Happy days!

Re: Your first game

Looks like the same as Hampshire Royal - Stockport County 1967. I believe it might have been the first home game of the season, if not actually the opening game. Definitely 3-0 and Reading were in sky blue that season. Can't remember much else. Didn't know any of the Reading players having just move...

Re: Back from the Game Thread - Blackpool (H)

First chance to see a game this year. I've been now been advised by eveyone from the busdriver backwards that I now have to reprise all today's thoughts, actions, clothes wearing, everything (it can get quite personal) etc. for every game for the rest of my life, or at least the season. (Which, give...

Just wondered if anyone had any opinions on our old boy Boucaud, who I believe turned out for the Poppies..?
