Re: Next Manager

Has any team unveiled a new manager at the weekend? Guess we'll have to wait until Monday at the earliest to discover our new manager. The front runner in the betting has changed hands a few times hasn't it? Wonder how the club have managed to keep it a secret til now? Probably because the club hav...

Re: Manager v luck etc

That’s some weird reasoning - theres only 2 reasons to sack a manager? Not sure I understand what you're getting at. Are you saying that my observation that I'd only sack someone if they weren't good enough or if they did something bad is a truism? Because if so, fair enough - I guess what I'm sayi...

Re: Manager v luck etc

I'm not as knowledgeable about football as I used to be, but doesn't one of those "Freakonomics but for football" books (The Numbers Game, Why England Lose, etc.) make a good stab at quantifying the degree to which luck affects football matches? Regardless, the impact of luck is why I thi...

Re: Next Manager

I've always liked the German model of football, they play fast, attractive free flowing football and their managers seem to have that strong personality about them. One team who where fancied for relegation were SC Freiburg, however they are tearing up the Bundesliga and currently sit in 4th place,...

Re: Congratulations, you are the new Reading manager

Sutekh gets a pass for clearly telling a joke but everyone who responded to him as if that was actually a good suggestion needs to learn the laws of the game.

Re: Next Manager

Given our last 3 appointments have been men with little to no experience of managing at our level (or at all) - I think we can safely assume they are going to go with someone with extensive experience of the English game at this level or above. We won't be taking a "gamble" on someone lik...

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

I've just cast the deciding vote. He stays! Oh don’t you worry about that we shall have another referendum in a few weeks. Not referendum, cough, .... poll, I mean poll, don’t know why I said referendum. we shall have another POLL in a few weeks. And we shall keep having one until such time the ‘le...

Re: Next Manager

Personally I don`t reckon it`s cut and dried that Mark Hughes will be the next one through the revolving doors. the owners and Nigel Howe will take a long hard look at his CV, it`s not hugely impressive with a career win rate of 37.4% But then again neither was Jose`s. just give us some stability f...

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

If you don't think Mark Hughes is 'another journeyman' and would be a totally incorrect appointment then your head is well and truly in the sand. Which, going off most of your posts, is likely to be the case. Hughes built a decent Stoke team up including the likes of Shaqiri, Bojan and Arnautovic a...

Re: GOMES OUT!

If we're paying Puscas anything more than about 20k we're crazy. And it should be plenty less. That's £1m a year. Given that we paid £8m to sign him on a five-year contract, I reckon he's in a good position to demand £30k. It's a seller's market and he'd just signed a new contract with Inter Milan.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol City (a) sponsored by hopeless causes

I rate Baldock but he isn't going to be the saviour. As I said, he was unlucky to be marginalised to such an extent, but he isn't much different in ability from Meite and Joao.

Re: GOMES OUT!

We're past the main financial stumbling block of the three year cycle that was causing us problems. It would be less bad than going down in the last couple of seasons. Not good, but not immediately disastrous. interesting..I just presumed that the big money signings that came in (and some of those ...

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

I think sacking the manager is both ineffective and not the sort of club I want us to be. If we can get someone with a proven track record like Hughton or Hughes then that's one thing. But I suspect we'd just get another journeyman off the merry-go-round and be in the same position in 12 months. St...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol City (a) sponsored by hopeless causes

I thought Baldock was unlucky last season but now he's getting the Popa treatment - people's opinion of him goes up and up the longer he is out of the team.

Suspect if Baldock does play then after a few games people will be calling for Loader instead.

Snowflake Royal If Hughton is actually interested ditch Gomes now.

But I fear he can and will do better.

Agree. Same for Allegri.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol City (a) sponsored by hopeless causes

I'd assumed it was incompetence rather than deliberate, but that makes sense. Would explain why Rino's been a shadow of himself from last season too. And why Pele still looks clueless. We're absolutely in this game, and are a little unlucky not to be back even. But I see nothing better from Gomes. ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Swansea City (a) sponsored by Andy Legg & Jason Bowen

For those of us that don't frequent this place 10 hours each day,...wtf is a “wolfcastle”? "That's the joke". For example "No wins in eight matches. Clement out! The next guy can't do any worse." "Clement left a year ago." "That's the joke" "Oh no I just...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Swansea City (a) sponsored by Andy Legg & Jason Bowen

You can't really compare Pele and Loader. Pele is in the Rino / Baker slot, whilst Loader was in the Swift / Ejaria slot now. Not quite a Wolfcastle, not quite a woosh... or is it a woosh? My entire point was that a midfield with Pele sat behind Rinomhota and Ejaria is very different to a midfield ...
