Re: Elm Park Years

Think we had 25000 at home to Saints in the League cup in the early 80’s? From memory Kevin Keegan was supposed to be playing for them, hence the crowd. But he did not play    . I was there natch Edit: it was nil nil and we lost the replay 2-0, big away crowd too. It was nothing t...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Leeds United (a) sponsored by Simon Church

In prize money terms I don't think it matters whether we finish 7th or 20th in the Championship. There's no place money.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Leeds United (a) sponsored by Simon Church

From memory having done the calculations a couple of years back (thanks Jaap) 74 is the usual mark to achieve to get into play-offs. Obviously there are lower exceptions but as previous posters have said we requite title winning form of almost 106 proportions to make that. And unless Mo Barrow comes...

Re: Elm Park Years

I think we traditionally kicked to the Town End in the 1960s early 1970s because it was slightly downhill and the prevailing westerly wind was behind you. The gates that prevented you walking right around the ground went up in summer of 1970 and you had to pay a shilling to transfer into the covered...

Re: BFTG Hull.

Nice that Obita scored against the team that nearly killed his career.

Otherwise usual home game misery. We never seem to get to 2-0 when we’re on top so lord knows where Ady got the idea we’d win 5-0.

Re: BFTG Millwall Away

Concur. Outplayed. Nothing stuck upfront. All three useless. Swift and Ejaria didn’t get into it. Once Adam departed we were looking for 0-0. Their pressure paid off. Goal was just one of those that fell kindly in the box. Second goal a break after Puscas screwed up but the game was already pretty m...

Re: When are Millwall away tickets on sale?

Hendo
LWJ Initial allocation sold out - final allocation just over 2k.

Excellent, I’m assuming the final allocation is the whole of that top tier.

Do they EVER put that lower tier on sale?

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Yes, felt like a defeat, but would have taken that result at 3pm. But really, even though our record there isn't good, I consider Reading a third division club playing above their natural level and expect a win every time we go there. Just me I suppose. Not a bad day out though. We’ve had thr...

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Chelsea play in Fulham and Fulham play in Putney Pretty much this. Nah. Putney is on the other side of the river. Fulham is one of the few London clubs that play where the name suggests. Fun fact, the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham once had three PL clubs, Chelsea, QPR and Fulham. Greedy.

Re: FA Cup away day memories

Great thread to feel young in. Wasn't even born for a lot of these fixtures. This might deserve a different thread but, yes, us oldsters will have a different perspective. From about 1968 to the early 1990s as a young man you were generally at some physical risk going to or being at a football matc...

Re: FA Cup away day memories

Anyone remember non league Wycombe Wanderers away in 1976? Football hooliganism was at it’s height and the whole of Buckinghamshire, some Oxford, some Spurs and a sprinkling of various clubs turned up and beat the fcuk out of us on the terraces. On the pitch.......we lost again. Er, we won 2-1, I d...

Re: FA Cup away day memories

Did you go? Believe we got a draw and won the replay 6-1...and set up a 4th round tie with Arsenal who were double winnners then, Charlie George and co I was there. Epic journey. Train left about 5am. Awash with beer by Newcastle where we get into can throwing fight with Hereford fans. Alighted fur...

Re: FA Cup away day memories

Has anyone mentioned the 4-0 defeat at Swindon in the late 70'/early 80's ? Cold, wet, lost, seriously concerned outside the ground afterwards. 1974. All I can remember is Robin Friday looking like he was dying of asthma attack / hangover on the halfway line. Totally gubbed but they were a division...

Re: FA Cup away day memories

Common theme of getting hassled at nonleague grounds by hoodies from big clubs. I was at Hendon but don’t remember Spuds kicking off. I do remember Cardiff at Barry and Bristol City at Bridgwater - go along thinking you’re the billy big boots and all of a sudden you’re not

Re: If Reading didn’t exist

I liked the QPR of Rodney March and Stan Bowles and I imagined QPR as a successful Reading (we were Div 3/4 then) in an alternative universe - the R's, blue and white hoops, Uxbridge Rd = Oxford Rd, Springbok = Spread Eagle, Shep Bush tube = Reading West, Ellerslie Rd =Norfolk Rd, the old open Schoo...

^^^ I knew it as the Brook Road end.

Real surprise they demolished it to make the ground SMALLER, that was a first for me. Flats of course.

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

Its irrelevant how much it is. Either pay it and go or don't pay it and stay at home. Going to football isn't something you're forced to do, you have a choice. That's a bit of a simplistic view to take. Why should football fans be blatantly ripped off because they want to support their team and eff...
