Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

Its irrelevant how much it is. Either pay it and go or don't pay it and stay at home. Going to football isn't something you're forced to do, you have a choice. That's a bit of a simplistic view to take. Why should football fans be blatantly ripped off because they want to support their team and eff...

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

Thought the England rugger fans in Yokohama were very poor second half when the team needed them.

All that way and you still don’t sing (your one song) on your big day out.

Club 1871 could teach them a thing or song or two.

Re: Rival Watch

Re: Keogh, I hear there might be an explicit FPP element too it too. Sacking him takes his wages off the books and if he wins his appeal that would be paid out of costs excluded from FPP calculations (presumably legal expenses rather than footballing operations). If FPP is the constraint they are u...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Thought we were second best throughout to what looked like a scratch Brentford team. CBC distribution was atrocious, like Stam had never left. Replaced by Myles at HT who gave away the crucial second goal with similar witless frigging around in his own box. Third was also a mistake leading to an OG....

Re: Footballing philosophy

Safe to say he’s probably pretty similar to Mark Hughes. Think it would be difficult to pin down Hughes’ philosophy - his Blackburn team were counter attackers based around Bellamy, Pedersen and Bentley, but his Stoke team were more about little technical players like Shaqiri and Arnautovic. So I’d...

Re: Manager v luck etc

On the question of whether luck evens out over a season ….. I have no background in the theory of stats but intuitively I cannot see a reason why luck should even out over 46 instances - or even a thousand instances. The distribution of luck is not even. Over the first 2065 Lottery draws 23 came out...

Re: Next Manager

Wasn`t Eddie Niedzwiecki an assistant here before? Yes, and IIRC he also did a short spell as caretaker manager. I think he got sent off (sent to the stands) when he was in charge as Caretaker Manager. Yes, either after Branfoot or Porterfield. Hopeless then. I believe Mark Bowen actually played fo...

Bobby the Syrup Mikhailov, now president of Bulgarian FA, taking a verbal swing at Southgate.

Look forward to seeing whether he’s still got the syrup on Monday.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Any news of BEN HOUSE?

I liked him. Unusually for our youth team he looked like a natural goal scorer. Went to Swindon last season, didn't score, fair enough, but haven't heard of him since.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Plymouth Argyle (a) sponsored by Glen Little

Only 3 league games in September, I would expect a much stronger side the next round. Me too, especially if we draw Oxford. Don't take chances with that. Selection gamble tonight paid off. Senior subs and late goals got us through. I couldn’t disagree more. We have some excellent young players who ...

Delighted with that line up. Well done Gomes. Feck the cup, let's smash Charlton. +1 Unlike others I never had a problem with Steve Coppell's approach to cup games. We have bigger fish to fry and these players need 1st team football. Nine changes. Utter bollox. Either take it seriously or don’t ent...

    Re: BFTG - Cardiff

Big thing for me was that we stood up to Cardiff physically , grappled all the way. Much stronger than usual side. Cardiff didn’t expect that and after 15 mins didn’t know what to do. Our better forwards came into play and we won comfortably but neutralising their physicality was key. Same again at ...

Odd considering most of the times we have looked truly dangerous this season have come when Swift has been involved in the build up. It’s a difficult one because Swift has been more creative so far this season. No issue with him in for Ejaria but we really do need Morrison in for this one as Cardif...

The point is the name on his shirt is Gimes so it is entirely reasonable to call him that. Any opportunity to have a go at Tim though... Did you not hear his reasoning? Nothing to do with his shirt, everything to do with Tim deciding he wasnt good enough for the name everyone else calls him. Out of...

The only other cup game resulted in a 2-1 FA Cup win for Reading at Loakes Park back in January 1977 Was there - I believe it was the last goals Robin Friday scored for us Yep - but was December 1976. The Hope Akpan example too, above, showing me that playing against a team and then joining them probably isn't as rare as I thought, maybe scoring is though! Edit: Akpan signed at the same time at Nick Blackman - there can't be many other instances of a Premier League side debuting two players at t...

Reading U23 won 2-1, with goals from Popa and Odimayo. Roeselare had a player sent off near the end, and again Reading failed to score against 10 men (but didn't concede either). Reading line-up: Andrésson (46′ Boyce-Clarke), Watson (63′ Elva-Fountaine), Osho, Odimayo (46′ Burley), Medford-Smith, E...

We could have a forward line of Meite Barrow Boye - just trips off the tongue, even if it's bit too Millwall.
