Re: Players at Reading who you had completely forgotten about

Steve Archibald, Scottish International, ex Spurs, played 1 game for us in about 1992 (?)

Re: Hunt in

I am very much in the "Hunt In" camp; he has earned the time IMHO, to turn things round and I think that there are clear signs that things ARE improving. Genuinely, right now I see us finishing comfortably mid table or higher, though the play-offs are not likely this season. However, if we...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Barnsley (a)

At least we have begun to create more chances than a couple of weeks ago and in Marriott have someone who knows where the net is. I think there are clear signs things are turning round and whilst I don't see us being a play off team, I really think we have it within us to be a top half team. That ha...

Sky Sports confirming Selles sacked from Sheffield United and being replaced by.............................................................................

Chris Wilder.

(And when they fire him after a few months, no doubt they were turn to Colin for salvation....)

Re: New Owners - Redwood Watch

From a brief scouring of t'internet, it would appear that HC Sports Ventures are a vehicle for investing funds in sports and leisure organisations, only created earlier this Year and it would appear we are their first investment. Someone on X has done a good job of digging stuff up: https://x.com/Ta...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Barnsley (a)

I think a surprise win here; 1-0

We will get battered but with Williams marshalling the defence and El Gato having another 8/10 game, we hold out and then catch them on the break, with Dan K getting the goal.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Swindon Town (a)

The most positive thing about the game has to be Marriot; looks like a "fox in the box" striker we haven't really had since Alf.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Swindon Town (a)

Admittedly I am not a regular at games these days but I watch what I can. Genuinely surprised to hear that the away end were booing and singing what they were singing. - After the relative unity during the end of the Dai era, how have things become so toxic so quickly? - Since when did these matche...

Re: Summer 2025 Transfer Ratings

It is nigh on impossible to state if a Summer signing has been "good" or anything else until you specify what your determinate criteria for the assessment is; for example, on one level - the level that we needed new players into a heavily depleted squad at the end of last season - they are...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Swindon Town (a)

Sorry to be pedantic but we aren't playing Swindon Town; we are playing Ian Holloway's Swindon Town, that new team formed when a famous ex player/manager joins a team as their manager. (see also Frank Lampard's Coventry City, Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle) and which is always referred to as such i...

Re: Reading FC Womens World

You can see how that could end up being like an American Football special teams; the dead ball specialist only subbed on for free kicks and corners, then subbed back off again ASAP, or a goalkeeper who is only brilliant at dealing with crosses (but crap at shot stopping) coming on whenever the oppos...

Re: Confimred - Matt Ritchie

Any hints as to whether a transfer was paid or not?

Seems like a good option to have as a wing/wing back to me; scored 5 goals for Pompey last season as well.

Re: Confimred - Jack Marriott

Personally, I don't know enough about the guy to give a Championship Manager critique of him, but I am very happy to give him every opportunity before bringing our the flaming torches and pitchforks, and genuinely hope he makes a success of being a Reading player.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Port Vale (h)

For a whole host of reasons, this game is assuming "must win" proportions.

We need to show that the positives from the last 3 games (all unbeaten) can be converted into goals and most especially, League points.

And I think we will do just that.

3-0 Reading.

Re: MATCHWATCH : AFC Wimbledon (h)

Enjoyable game to watch (on Sky - terrible commentary!); Wimbledon are no mugs (and are masters of the dark arts!) and will surprise a lot of teams this season; we did well to beat them last night. I thought Fraser had a really good game even without his stunning goal; is there any way we can play h...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a)

Classic smash and grab to get a point, but you can’t polish a turd, we looked like a pub team most of the game , not clue looking at the players how it’s going to change. God help us if we lose Wing . The problem is wing. And it’s not his fault. But this all stems from Bindon and mbengue going. The...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a)

Gunny Fishcake Oh for a dirty 0-0

+1

I truly don't care if it is a rubbish game and the Sky commentators bemoan the "lack of quality" (cliche alert for tonight), let's get an ugly, terrible, desperate 0-0.
