Re: End of season sale - value the squad

The Secret Footballer, in one of his books said the following, which I was surprised about. If a player leaves and hasn't instigated the move theirselves i.e. asked for a transfer, then the selling club has to pay up the players contract in full. Now, I imagine there would be room for negotiation i...

Re: End of season sale - value the squad

So Aluko will cost us something like £750k to £1.5m over the next year. I'd say that puts his price at around -£500k. Ie, if it got him off the wage bill, I'd pay a club £500k to sign him and we'd still come out ahead on the deal. The Secret Footballer, in one of his books said the following, which...

Re: Confimred loan - Ovie Ejaria

Unfortunately this is Hobnob. Back in the real world your case makes perfect sense. If Brentford’s strategy doesn’t amount to sound financial stability in the crazy world of football finance, God knows what that says about all those fretting over points deductions as the bulldozers arrive at Griffi...

Re: Confimred loan - Ovie Ejaria

That's not the same as making a profit. If one club succeeds and 23 don't... what does that tell you about the success of trying to spend to make money. What's Brentford's record signing? How often do they pay out £1m plus on transfers? What's their wage to income ratio? How much profit have they m...

Re: Confimred loan - Ovie Ejaria

Do they actually make a profit then? One club means bugger all even if they do. Well they have made 120 million in transfers over the last 5 years. Thats where you are wrong, one club doing it shows it can be done by other clubs. That's not the same as making a profit. If one club succeeds and 23 d...

Re: Squad for 2020/21

If we're going back on our word with Liverpool only to sign him on a free, I assume they will never loan/sell us anybody again and could have grounds to take us to court. I assume we're making a late attempt to get him to agree to a lower wage, which isn't as silly as it sounds in the current envir...

Re: Squad for 2020/21

OTOH we might be saying to Liverpool that if we pay £3M we'' be docked 15 points and probs relegated, can we change the shape of the deal and make it incentive based instead of a lump sum (if it was a lump sum) The fee is not the problem for FFP as that is amortised over the length of the contract....

Re: Squad for 2020/21

Only 3 players have more assists than him this season? Well if that is how you are measuring creativity then there are 3 more creative than him........and then if you look at how many minutes have been played he falls even further down the list, if you also then includes goals scored he falls even ...

Re: Squad for 2020/21

Hendo But 10 assists and 6 goals is still a decent return for a creative midfielder in a team that has been a bit of a shambles this season.

Not going to disagree with that.

Re: Squad for 2020/21

I'm all for a salary cap but they can't just introduce one out of the blue in 2 months. It's going to be impossible for us and other teams to save over £20m in wages in such a short time, especially the Premier League teams coming down. Yeah, I'd expect it to be introduced over the next few years. ...

Re: Player of the Season

Had Morrison down as a potential 4th then remembered he had a brief spell of "meh" so just stuck with the main 3. Swift and Meite have also had spells of "meh" so you'd better discount them as well. We haven't performed well enough for players to have played well all season so t...

Re: Rival Watch

Hound I've no love for Wigan but from the bits I understand, I really hope they don't go down.

The statement yesterday from the EFL basically said they are getting the 12 point reduction. Force Majeure is Wigan's only route out of this but that will be difficult to prove.

Re: Wigan in Administration

Surely the bookies wouldn`t pay out on Wigan`s relegation if there was the slightest suspicion? We are talking about bets placed in the Phillipines...... So because it`s the far east they just pay out on big bets without checking, fair enough. Not quite the same regualted business out there as we h...

Re: Swift Offer

If it’s true offers have been received for Swift of £3.5 mill. This is bloody insulting and Howe should tell them to treble their offer or bugger off.Why however anyone would think he could play in the Prem escapes me. So you say we should ge triple what they have reportedly offered and then say he ...

Re: Wigan in Administration

It sadly won't help Wigan avoid a points deduction; the EFL's role is only a ratification - they have signed off loads of dodgy owners like Bury/Bolton last season, if there was any recourse clubs would have gone there in the past I'm not so sure....if there is a gambling angle in this and they giv...
