Re: The real big cock-ups

Reading didn't see the benefits in keeping Jimmy Hill, Sam Bartram or Peter Osgood. Weren't we close to getting Neil Lennon, too? I recall him being dropped by Leicester (?) for a mid-week game at Elm Park because we were about to sign him. He was at Crewe, and although we bid for him he chose Leic...

Re: TSI - The Promises, Policies & Progress Thread

To be fair to the club, what else would you expect them to say? If everything is fine. they'd be saying "we're comfortable with the situation." If everything's not fine, they'd be saying exactly the same - because saying so would only make it worse. That's the point - I'd expect if everyt...

Just to keep everything in the same place, the red tops, SSN and local media all running with the story AZ wants to sell his 51% http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/5183773/Reading-owner-Anton-Zingarevich-is-ready-to-sell-his-stake.html http://t.co/jCmUS1jYEH the Sun is missing the ...

Re: TSI - The Promises, Policies & Progress Thread

Lol. There is literally nothing to those stories, except the paranoid witterings of doommongerists. None of those articles provide anything even as concrete as "Sources tell us". Which we all know is short-hand for "we're making it up". It might as well read "some 'tards ar...

No. I think the whole scheme is now dead in the water.

Hence no GP station.

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

Yep, if the cloggies can build houses in what is, essentially, the sea then at the very least we should be able to bang out a Gentle Ben/Everglades knock off. IN! for powering round Kennet Meadows in one of those giant fan powered boats. Confused. If they're proposing to build on the field I'm thin...

Re: TSI - The Promises, Policies & Progress Thread

melonhead i will as usual wait for some actual evidence, and base my opinions on that

How does this evidence-based approach work with regard to accepting the bona fides of potential owners in the first place?

Re: No referees or Assistants from Berkshire on First Class

I think the presence of cities is more important that counties.

Successful teams with passionate supporters tend to come out of industrial cities rather than provincial towns, so rather than compare Berkshire to Leicestershire and Norfolk maybe you should compare Reading to Leicester and Norwich?

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

Is the green park one you mention separate from the massive kennet meadows housing development that Prudential want? Cuz that aunt gonna happen for a long, long time. Of ever, hopefully Stupid bloody place for a housing development and the council planners know it. The Pru can f*ck right off It's a...

Re: TSI - The Promises, Policies & Progress Thread

As far as I can see, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Anton has been happy and able to put financial backing into the club from the time he first got involved up until now. Not going to argue with this, but from my understanding of things the added income from the year in the PL meant th...

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

Provincial public transport planners in "missing a trick" shock. Not really. The extra revenue from the stadium will never be worth enough to make any other investment worthwhile, and I don't think it's transport planners making the decisions. Plus it's a fair old trek to the station, as ...

Trevor Francis at Sheffield Weds giving Cantona a trial and deciding against him, then Howard Wilkinson at Leeds letting him go to Man Utd for just over a million.

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

I would hazard a guess that on match days, FGW would try and double up trains from 2/3 to 5/6 coaches as on Saturdays they will have plenty of spare trains in various sidings that could be used (providing the platforms are long enough on this line). To have a dedicated rail service to the ground, R...

Re: BFTG - Burnley

The trouble you have when you have come down fm the Premier League, and we had it as well despite only one year in the 'sun', is that you think you should play like Arsenal against every side, and win comfortably as though you have a god given right. You don't, and the best sides who go on to win p...

What if 17 were spooned high over the bar and the 2 on target should have been easily saved? I refuse to answer your hypothetical query on grounds that it is not the case today so oxf*rd off. Top goalpost moving! Once you start moving the goalposts a lot of the shots originally missed turn on...
