Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Sound the non-European football klaxon again...

Five years after most of their squad was wiped out in a plane crash and following relegation, Chapecoense have won promotion once more to the top division in Brazil.

Re: Brentford game postponed

Our rearranged home fixture against Brentford will now be played on Wed 10th February, kick-off 7pm. However, should Brentford FC remain in the FA Cup beyond the Fourth Round, our league meeting against the Bees will instead be rescheduled for Wed 10th March, kick-off 7pm. https://mobile.twitter.co...

Re: Weekend Football

Charlton Vs Rochdale is currently 4-4 after 67 minutes  Rochdale were 4-1 up at half-time. Millwall about to draw for the 11th time this season. Only the top four have lost fewer games than Millwall this season. Incredibly they'll have to maintain this draw frequency to equal the record, whi...

Re: Post Brexit transfer market

Interesting thought that the transfer market might flex such that managers or players who want to play in England might do a 'shift' in a particular league like China in order to facilitate the move. I forget how residency works, but pesumably on the Solskjaer thing, he'd have qualified on the basis...

Re: Brentford game postponed

:( :( More time for team to recover I guess. Moore will be back soon. The policy seems inconsistent. We've seen weakened teams fielded, 3 points awarded for no shows in L1 & L2, and postponements. If the shoe was on the other foot, we'd say this is a fair outcome. But I'd have wanted a crack at...

He does always look ready to pop. He is managing to keep a lid on it though. Since 18/19, where he got a barely fathomable 16 yellows and 5 reds in 48 games, he has had 14 yellow cards and 2 reds in 74 matches.

From Despair To Where? Schalke beat Hoffenheim 4-0 to preserve Tasmania Berlin's place in the record books.

Always the way, these records are records for a reason I guess. I remember Macclesfield finally grinding out a win once they equalled Derby's 36-game run without one.

Re: CeLOLtic

Why are Celtic doing so badly this season? Plot twist. They aren't, Rangers are just running away with it. They've got 44 points from 20 league games so far this season. In 18-19, they had 43 points at this stage, with four defeats. In 17-18, it was 47 points. In 15-16 it was 47 points too. Can't r...

The only way to stop it is to enforce respect with cards. But the officials have been pussies about it for decades, so I don't see it changing any time soon. And it would result in about two months of most games being abandoned due to the number of sendings off. Said this to Mrs S the other day dur...

Stranded 112 positive tests from the 66 clubs tested in the EFL this week - positive rate of 3.2%. 3 clubs accounted for 35 of those positive tests and the majority of clubs either having just 1 or 0 cases at all.

If anything illustrates how this virus quickly infiltrates closed groups, it is that.

Ox for me sits in a bucket of players like (for me) Walcott and Winks, who hit 20 years old and just seem to stop getting any better. I watched him running Liverpool ragged for Arsenal in a cup tie on Sky Classics the other day as a teenager, he barely looks the same player now.

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Anyone know much about Union Berlin? They were in the fifth tier as recently as 2006*, and promoted to the Bundesliga two years ago, currently in fifth place and have lost just twice in 14 league games. On a similar timeline, this would be like Fleetwood Town now sitting 5th in the PL. Fleetwood wer...

Not arrested but - England and Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier has been suspended for 10 weeks and fined £70,000 for breaching the Football Association's betting rules. The 30-year-old denied seven alleged breaches, but four were found proven during a personal hearing. The offences occur...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

I'll probably jinx this now, but Rangers have conceded just five league goals all season. With 12 games to go they look very well set to beat Celtic's record low of 18 goals conceded in 34 league games. They've conceded just one goal at Ibrox in the league all season. And the three goals St. Mirren ...

Schalke not won in the league since January 17th, 29 games ago. The German record is 31 league games without a win. They also have €250M of debt and will be in a big mess if (when) they are relegated. One of the big clubs in Germany. 3rd biggest fan base. Heard them described before as the Bayern M...

Whilst I don't think that the Jack Stephens handball last night was a penalty - he was only six feet from the rapidly moving ball - the decision of VAR to allow it seemed to fly in the face of previous decisions we've seen for handball this season - not least the one against Gomez for handball where...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Remarkable that since Van Dijk was injured, Atalanta are the only opponent in 17 games to have scored more than one goal against Liverpool. Can't help but wonder if Klopp might look to turn Fabinho into a permanent centre-back - albeit his absence from the midfield has changed Henderson's role, whic...
