Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

I've only just noticed this - is it the first time the SPL has split into two halves for the final five games of the season? Also - with fixtures for this 'second phase' not set until the top and bottom six were decided, it seems a little silly of the SPL not to have set Celtic v Rangers for the fi...

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

Some very good young players at Hull (albeit some loans) - Carvalho, Philogene, Morton, Delap. Rosenior has done a great job after they looked like relegation candidates last season. The Reading link makes them the obvious team to root for, surely.

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

Yep. Leeds or Ipswich will become the third team to reach at least 90 points in the EFL and fail to achieve promotion. If Leeds avoid defeat, a new record will be set at either 91 or 93 points, Sunderland and Sheffield United both having previously scored 90 exactly. Southampton can finish 4th with ...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Don't know if we had this one, it's a couple of weeks old. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EvIcyRuAXg Osasuna trailing Valencia 1-0 at home and they get a penalty in the 97th minute. Ante Budamir tries a 'pause' in his run-up, gets confused, pauses twice, and then toe-ends the ball straight to the ...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

97th minute equaliser for Leverkusen to keep the unbeaten Bundesliga season going They will just not be beaten. 89th minute equaliser at West Ham last week. On 30th March they beat Hoffenheim 2-1, having been a goal behind after 88 minutes. Two weeks earlier they were 2-1 behind at home to Qarabag ...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

I would quite like to see Bowen on a bigger stage. He strikes me as one of those all 'confidence, no ability' players that just force their way to success through insane levels of self belief and determination. (i am aware I am being harsh, of course he has ability, I hope you get what I mean thoug...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Same for Nunez. Even Carragher recognises that now. Nunez is exactly the sort of player who will move to La Liga, or anywhere really - he's a real Atletico type forward - and score 35 a season. Something, surely, has to click into place soon, because he has all the technical ability. Mind you, I sa...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

It'll be another transitional season next year too with a new manager and an expected defensive overhaul. Not sure there is a massive amount to 'overhaul' unless Van Dijk leaves. Alisson is going nowhere. Quansah looks like a future England centre-back. Bradley is TAA's replacement if the latter mo...

Already in use on their third shirt, but this will be the first time in 30 years that it has featured on the home kit. It's an iconic logo though. Liverpool currently just have the liver bird rather than their full crest. https://cdn.theathletic.com/cdn-cgi/image/width=770%2cformat=auto%2cquality=75...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

He's clearly one of the best in the world, but his career will read a few years in a poor league at a team that could win it without him, and then a few more years in a good league in a team that could win it all without him.

Re: Weekend Football

Decline? I don't know. I think that's a bit knee jerk about a side that were in the title race until the final weeks of the season. A season in which they weren't expected to challenge after their midfield 'rebuild'. And that rebuild has worked. But too often they've conceded a sloppy goal - 'only' ...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Leverkusen's title breaks Kingsley Coman's streak of 11 consecutive league winners' medals with three different clubs (Juventus, PSG, Bayern) - which appears to be a record where a player has played for multiple teams. There are examples of longer streaks in countries where one team has dominated a ...

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

A big 'triangle' of games in the Championship. One of Hull and Coventry will likely finish 7th in the Championship - they play each other tonight, before Ipswich play each of them consecutively ahead of the final round of games.

Over to Spurs then, who play all three title chasers in the next 12 days.... They play city on May 14th. Oops. Yep, it's Chelsea (a) next midweek, sandwiching fixtures against Arsenal (h) and Liverpool (a). I do hope Liverpool can win at Everton tonight to keep it interesting. Can't see Brighton be...

Re: Weekend Football

Bernardo Silva played 120 minutes against Madrid and then 90 minutes against Chelsea. Matheus Nunes was an unused sub in both. I simply can’t sympathise with big clubs complaining about player welfare with fixture congestion whilst refusing to use their squad’s full depth. Read this view on Twitter...
