Re: Reading Fixture on date of birth

Turns out we beat Hudds 2-1 in an FA Cup replay on the day I was born. I didn't know that 8) That was a cracking game played on a freezing night, with a howling gale. Keepers deadball kicks were being blown back to them. Only time we played the ball out from the back in 20 years ! Senior scored the...

Re: Comical Goals

Seem to remember a 2-0 defeat against Darlington 85/6 when we managed two comical own goals.Possibly the worst Reading game i have seen, and in the season we ran away with the league.

This fixture always brings back memories of the great 4-3 match. Kevin Bremners finest hour.Would settle for a scrappy 1-0 this time.

Re: Reading Hall of Shame?

I agree that Malcolm Swain got more stick than any other Reading player. If another Reading player was fouled, some wag (not that type) would always shout out to kick Swain instead.I know he was woeful, but he did not deserve all the abuse. Sean Evers must have been the worst player we paid decent mone...

Re: Top 3 Reading goals ever

I have seen most of the goals mentioned previously, but still think Robin Friday's must be top.Not often the ref leads the applause. Lee Nogan's at Wembley was a bit special. It all seemed in slow motion at the time.Must have been sitting in a different time zone. Last one is a bit out of left field.S...

Re: Howard Now Confirmed

Sidwell and Harper were very fit and could both play box to box.In the first season in the premiership they were nearly always playing against three in midfield, and were very rarely overwhelmed.Arsenal at home the obvious exception, but that was two against five! I personally think they were the best...

Re: Most gutting moment as a Reading fan.

Bolton at Wembley. The second half was like slow torture,as we sat back deeper and deeper.I have never seen a team so knackered in extra time.Saddest yourney home from a match in my lifetime, and one i do not want to repeat.

Re: Most ecstatic moment as a Reading fan

The whole of the Simod Cup final seems like a moment now. When the Reading players walked out the tunnel, and the noise that greeted them, must be one of the most emotional moments.

Same goes for first game in premiership against Boro.Just proud to be there sums it up.

Re: Reading 4 Plymouth 3

Was the crowd really only just over 8500 ? I remember a lot of Plymouth fans as it was a top of the table clash.Must have been a lot a Xmas shoppers that day who missed the best Reading fight back.
Kevin Bremner's best ever game for Reading, and a legend for one performance.

Re: Did you see that Tranmere game?

I was there with some school mates. One had a broken leg so we had to sit, rather than go on the south bank.Fortunately we were level with Robin Friday when he scored that goal, and got a perfect view.Still the best goal i have seen live.

This must be good news.A natural partner for Doyle. The more options up front the better for me.I'm sure Wolves,Birmingham, and Cardiff will not be so pleased.

5-0 game against Tranmere not bad, with that Robin Friday goal.Night games always had so much atmosphere at Elm Park.

Plymouth 4-3 game was dire for first 65 mins, last 25 mins in the words of Chris Kamara,'unbelievable'.Never felt so good after a game on the drive home.Kevin Bremner became a Reading hero that game.

Re: Records in Trouble

Last saw Steve Death play in Chalky White's testimonial, and what memories it brought back . He was a great shot stopper, but had the worst kick i have ever seen from a keeper.Could only reach the half way line wind assisted. He played in a time when Reading did not play out from the back. Not a lot cha...

Re: Is there a generation gap among fans?

I was conned into supporting Reading in the 69/70 season, when all games seemed to be 6-3 for or against. The entertainment was fantastic, and i thought the following seasons would be more of the same.Top half of the third division dizzy heights. How wrong i was, relegation was followed by years in the...
