Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

I was sat within earshot of Mr. Carson yesterday. Apparently Selles’ plan for the left back spot is to make a senior signing, then have Mola covering both full back positions and Dorsett covering both left back and centre back. Seems sensible to me. Mr. Carson thought if Matty could be a bit less r...

Re: Rival Watch

Echo IR's sentiment that basic lessons of geography put a cap on what Wycombe can achieve. Relatively small town with London and bigger clubs nearby; I don't keep who they're kidding with all this talk of shooting for the stars. A few years in the Championship is the best they can hope for. Realist...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

And another thing, which will no doubt crop up sooner or later. The top 16 U21 sides qualify for the EFL Trophy. However, there is a rule that says U21 sides of clubs in Leagues 1 or 2 are excluded. So we don't get to enter twice, and presumably 17th-placed Southampton get a place instead. Boo! Sho...

Re: Rival Watch

I'm really struggling to see why anyone would have big plans for Wycombe, meaning no disrespect, they're a club that can certainly grow, and have some time in the sun, but it's hard to see them sustaining much beyond L1-Champ yo-yo any time soon. They're a bizzare choice with their barely any time i...

Re: VAR

Refs to announce to the stadium why a VAR decision has been used from next season :| They tried that at the women's World Cup and it was a huge opportunity missed. For a judgemental handball, where it had clearly hit an arm but people were not convinced it was handball, they would simply say to the...

Re: Squad Watch 2024/25

Michael Hector has been released from Charlton..... If he is not good enough for the Addicks, I doubt he is good enough for us now.(pity though). At 31 it makes sense for Charlton to be looking at a replacement. But that's young enough to be worth a squad place in our very young defence imo. One or...

FAO admin people on here & moderators, I have blocked the previous poster, why do I keep receiving these posts?? Blocking just hides their post under an 'x posted do you want to view it' message. You'll still get notifications if they quote you, they post on a topic you're 'watching' (is that a...

Re: Confrimed: Paul Mukairu

He's got a lot about him, but he just makes such poor decisions

If we'd signed him on perm, you'd think, yeah, decent back up to persist with and see if he comes good.

But on loan, its a no thanks to bringing him back. And we can't pay a fee anyway.

Re: Looking forward to the 2024-25 season

Jackson Corner I remember losing 3-0 at home to Wimbledon and radio Berkshire being bombarded with calls demanding SC out. :(

That would be the boxing day defeat in the run of 3 0-3s in a row when Coppell said he had no idea what was wrong.

We were absolutely abject that day. So no surprises people were unhappy.

From Despair To Where? I remember the site going into an angst riddled meltdown after Plymouth.

I guess it depends on whether you filter out the usual muppets or not.

The archived match report on here certainly paints a disappointed but promising picture.

Re: Looking forward to the 2024-25 season

I remember the Reading FC magazine (remember that?) had a full list with us being mid-table ahead of that season. Just shows how underestimated that team was, making the achievement even more impressive. I remember going into that season very confident. Not 106 Champions confident, but good chance ...

There was a point in about 2010 when we were the most successful club in terms of wins this century.

Re: 2023-24 L1 Table Prediction Competition.

Thank you. So that's roughly sixth. Our 'hive mind' was fairly good this season then. And factor in two of the three worst performers were an alphabetical list and a randomly generated list with Reading moved top and Oxford bottom. Not sure I've got the scoring quite right, but mucher better to see...

Re: 2023-24 L1 Table Prediction Competition.

We were unpredictable for various reasons - not least points deductions coming into play. Charlton have to be the biggest underachievers this season; Stevenage the biggest overachievers. Looking at the average prediction (average in brackets): ⋅ Derby (2.5) - 7 ⋅ Portsmouth (4.7...

Re: Rival Watch

Mr Angry According to the CUFC fans forum page, he was on £13K a week!

Cambridge were absolutely desperate for strikers at one point and he was fairly well rated only a few years back.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a few on similar or more.

Re: Goalkeepers

I've had a look at the basic goalkeeping stats. Despite everyone criticising Button in goal, we've conceded basically as much with him in goal as we have with Pereira in goal. Button - Pld 37 - GA 55 - 59.7 mins per GA Pereira - Pld 9 - GA 14 - 54.6 mins per GA Even without that stoppage time mista...

Re: 2023-24 L1 Table Prediction Competition.

We were probably the biggest wildcard in hindsight. Totally unpredictable. Then you always get a couple surprise packages like Stevenage and Orient plus underachievers like Charlton. But the top 2 wasn't very surprising, the playoffs involve all of last year's play off losers and the bottom 4 provi...

If Abbey came back, a back 3 of him, Mbengue and Bindon would be sexy as oxf*rd.
