Re: Worst Game Ever

Ian Bran foot's last game in charge - a shocking 4-1 defeat to Leyton Orient. Steve Francis was inspired, the rest were dire. Was still amazed when Branfoot went, thought he was going to keep the job forever...

Re: Successful big money signings

Interesting question. If I think back over the record signings during my time supporting RFC it is hardly impressive:- Terry Hurlock - spent probably as much time banned as he did playing in his year here Keith Curle - the stand-out here in my opinion. Replacement for Steve Wood, oozed class. Steve ...

Re: Simon Osborn

Still get stick for saying "we should have kept Dillon" after a couple of early games back in 94/95. Totally endorse the earlier comments, can only add that Osborn carried others / made them look better than they were (Holsgrove, Tom Jones, etc.)

Re: 1985/86 and all that

Although I went to my first game in 1983, this was the season which made me a Royal. Although the article alludes to the season being unexpected, should be remembered that RFC were unbeaten at home in the league in 1983/84 and then won a records number of away games in 1985/86. The framework was alr...

Re: Who was Reading's 'tidiest' ever player?

Apologies. late into this - will probably be discounted anyway as I haven't got 500+ posts where I either revel in my own self importance or simply bicker against the last reply. However, returning to topic. Two stand-outs for me are: Chris Makin: consistent performer whenever called upon during the...

Re: What about crap games you're proud you went to

A 4-1 defeat away to Leyton Orient in late 1989. A truly miserable performance with only Steve Francis having anything which resembled a decent game. I think most RFC fans were just resigned to defeat. Ian Branfoot's last game in charge.

RFC retro shirts

I know there has been a lot of talk about the 13/14 kits. However, everyone knows that they will be $hite. Most other clubs seems to recognise that there is an appeal for past strips yet RFC only offer the Robin Friday version and the 'Courage' kits from the mid 80's. I know it has been mentioned he...

Re: 20 years ago last weekend

I was there too.Always remember that the 'lads' who stood in the corner of the South Bank by the away end were notably absent when it all kicked off. Swansea - were - by their then standards - having a decent season and I think just made the play-offs that year. As mentioned above, brought bugger al...

Mark McKeever?

One for the old school - Dave Madden. Played a handful of games in 87/88 season and scored a couple of two. Came, played then fooked off.

Re: RFC Unsung Heroes X1

What about Stuart Beavon? 10 years at RFC and consistently played 30+ games a season.

Not necessarily unsung, but a shout out for Paul Canoville? Albeit brief, and maybe in RTG to a then 13 year old, looked fantastic during the early months of the 86/87 season.

Re: Thoughts on staying up? Expectations?

To stay up, you have to average five points a month. I think that's possible. I do expect a few more pastings than happened last time we were in the prem.

Re: Football analysts on TV

Given that the premier league is so popular worldwide, it is a sad reflection that the pundits elsewhere are so much better. I know it has been mentioned before, but Giles and Dunphy in Ireland are superb - no 'old boys' network and largely say what they see. The main problem with BBC & ITV is t...

RFC Bukta range

Well, the 2012-2013 home kit is going to be ruddy awful then. I noticed that Toffs (http://www.toffs.com) has introduced a Bukta range, these being exact replicas for the late 70's shirts for Newcastle, Hibs, Plymouth, etc. I have asked about RFC and got the following response:- "Thanks for you...
