Re: On this day

50 years ago today 1st Aug 1970, and on a Saturday, Reading 2-3 Man United featuring Best, Charlton, Law & co, first round Watney Cup. This was the first sponsored competition in English football was run pre season for the highest scoring sides from the previous season. I was a bit too young to...

The most charismatic/moronic fan we have or have ever had

I always remember a very drunken Frankie Henry doing a one man pitch invasion at Elm Park at least once every 3 or 4 games. The Police just threw him out and he was back a couple of games later. No bans in those days.

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

Jermaine Defoe destroyed us For Bournemouth at the end of the 2001 season, we’ll at least for the first half anyway. It took numerous tactical and positional changes to slow him down a touch. I still laugh at that one, there big away day, and they needed to win to make the play offs, and we managed ...

Re: Most underrated/"does a job" player for Reading?

I will go for Gunnarson, Andy Hughes, Chris Makin and John Oster. Gunnarson for me doesn't tick the box because he was highly rated by most fans. Andy Hughes is a good shout, Primarily a central midfielder but at the club he also took on the roles of winger, left back, right back and scape goat. Al...

Re: Worst Reading Player

This thread is titled worst Reading player, not average, Reading players Players like Andy Hughes, the goat etc cant possibly be in the worst category. j In fact, Andy Hughes should be in the Gave it All for the Club and category. He was a player that never gave up, kept trying, even when the cause...

Re: We simply must top this list.............

Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool can fcuk off because they were too flight clubs who'd oxf*rd up, Wolves and Fulham can fcuk off because that were bankrolled to fcuk. Forest can fcuk off because they didn't even finish in the top 2 and Leeds can fcuk off because they are Leeds. So that leaves a top...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Rather irrationally it really annoys me when it's quoted that the point at Leicester got us promoted. Not true as a defeat would still have seen us promoted given Leeds failure to beat Stoke at home and Watford losing at home to Millwall http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/4819702.st...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Never forget that Asaba scored the goal that got us promoted to the Premier League. Well, Kevin Doyle scored the goal for us in 2006 and Mikel Leigertwood scored the goal in 2012. If Asaba scored a goal somewhere on those days that meant another team couldn’t catch us, then sorry, that does not qua...

Re: Worst Reading games

Come to think of it my mate came to the Huddersfield play off final, and said it was the worst game he’d ever seen. I would also agree with that, Huddersfield in the Play Off Final. Stam’s plan to neutralise the game and hope that we could nick something was nothing short of a disgrace, and when you...

Re: BFTG - Preston (a)

Perfect away performance. Two great counter attacking goals in the first half, and should've had a third which didn't look offside to me. Second half saw a brilliant save from Rafael from long range and some solid defending by Moore and Morrison. We gave Preston the ball, and did what we needed to ...

The Enfield Royal71 Trouble outside the ground. Glad we did them in and chased them off the mugs. Few punches thrown and we won. We will see them at the den.

Re: How times change

The thing is I have no idea what happiness people get supporting Man City when they're not from there at all and are just supporting a team that's gone from total shite to 2nd best in the country with just money. Do the kids walking around with City tops on have any idea at all/ Would they have any...

sorry no excuses. Boro were a poor team but we were just as bad. I know its early in the season and, and, and but today was very disappointing Was watching Norwich vs City earlier. You know, 12 months ago approx Norwich went to Ipswich and went 1-0 down. Had they lost that game, Farke may have gone...

Re: BFTG Huddersfield Away

Without being critical of any player that started today. Rinomhota should have been in the starting 11 with Pele. Boye spent a lot of the game defensively. As we had no ability to win the ball back. Formation was wrong. We invited pressure on ourselves. Allowing Huddersfield to press us back. Why o...

Re: RIP - Gordon Neate

Definite club legend - RIP Gordon. Was he the guy that put neat weedkiller on the pitch just before the start of the season (can't remember year) but the pitch was dreadful for months He also caught some Bournemouth fans paint spraying before the game at Elm Park back in 75 and gave them a good hid...

SCIAG Few people have given as much to this club as Gordon. Deserves a blue plaque next to Maurice Evans and Roy Tranter.

I second that!
